Re: Shell Survey

Almost all of the PPs I've owned over the years have preferred turbos, especially tapestry and mexican turbos. I've only had a few crabs that would qualify as XL or jumbo, and they eventually switched to jade turbos. I can't really say about E favs. They've all sort of picked random shells when they...

 And many people used to say dairy and citrus were unsafe but now we know better.

Re: Is this safe?

Is this dyed cholla or the fake one made of polyresin (like aquarium decor - which is generally considered safe)? I used to have a red polyresin one that I used for a while in the water dish. Color never ran or chipped, no issues. Eventually I chucked it just because I didn't care for the look. If i...

None of mine have ever been spot on, digital or analog. Definitely need to check all and I recommend rechecking periodically because they can change.

Re: Am I providing the appropriate shell selection?

As long as you provide enough preferred shell types, there's nothing wrong with throwing a few oddballs in too. Especially if you already have them on hand and your one crab seems to like them. As long as they're not damaged in some way or coated in something that could be considered unsafe, there's...

Re: UNSAFE HIDE

As I said, I've used them before for a few years. I'm not currently using them now, just because I find wood pieces have to be chucked after spending a while in the crabitat. The pine used in these half logs are kiln dried and are not harmful. There's even some thought out there that pine isn't as h...

I've used the half logs for a few years with zero issues. They're pine.

Re: Do they eventually become less skittish?

I agree that it depends on the individual crab. I have some that aren't bothered by me in the slightest and others that still tuck in or take off.

I've had them in the dining room before. Right now they're in the family room but I'm planning to move them out into the living room soon.

Re: Best Hygrometer?

I've been using this one for a little over a year with great results. It's very similar to the one CharlesMTF linked but costs a little more. I used to use the other acurite linked but the screen messed up within a couple months, even with trying to be careful about moisture and sand.

Re: DIY Modified Hamster Wheel Tutorial

Neat! I've seen more and more crabbers offering wheels, but haven't ever tried it myself. How well do they hold up with the sand and humidity?
