Re: Help the HCA! - We Need Species ID Photos!

Wow, that dark straw is stunning! I was wondering, you described the sunset violas as the "easters indonesian variant". Does this mean that zebra sunsets have their own population and aren't just a random color morph that happens from time to time?

Re: How much would you pay?

I kind of have a pokemon trainers mentality when it comes to species so i've "gotta catch 'em all" :P
But I would pay for overnight shipping but probably would not go over 50 for the crabs, and I would have to save my money for a while to get some.

Re: The Elusive Normal...

After 6 weeks they should have had time to de stress, but they might need to de stress again after the temp drop. I would just keep the conditions steady and correct, it's pretty much impossible to say what 'normal' is because all crabs have different personalities. The never seen crab might be molt...

Re: Help the HCA! - We Need Species ID Photos!

So C.pseudorugosus does exist! These photos look nothing like tony coenobitas website, but the pics on his site just looked like straws to me. Either way, beautiful crabs! I wonder if we will ever get these in the states like we got blueberries. Beautiful pics Mokulele_Hawai'i! Also an added observa...

Re: LiveHermitCrabs.com

I'm begging to wonder if indos modify their shells to make a head notch. :) One of mine came in shells that were notched that same way, but I haven't seen any do it to their new shells...so... I dunno. Maybe something for peeps to look out for when they get indos in! :D I was just thinking that as ...

Re: LiveHermitCrabs.com

***************************************************************************************************************** I know that most of you had ordered straws, blues, and indos. I'm not quite ready for really exotic crabs yet, I'm still fairly new and so far I haven't had any major problems. But, I w...

Re: LiveHermitCrabs.com

I'm not sure anyone can trust the statement that they don't "force" crabs into painted shells. I would bet if you asked any shop on the boardwalk if they force crabs into painted shells, the answer would be no. I would imagine their supplier has a lot more to do with shell assortment than they do. ...

Re: LiveHermitCrabs.com

I can understand how you feel, but you also just described the behavior of most pet stores as well as most of the online sellers of hermies - even the reputable ones. If you set too high of a standard then you're not going to be able to buy from anyone. With craberriesusa.com at least we have a pla...

Re: Which species is the most difficult to keep?

My older straws are about 2 1/2 years old and my jumbo(who's really just a large large and maybe small jumbo but I like to call him a jumbo  ) i've only had about 1 year. I also use lights and an UTH, so the temp fluctuates a few degrees at night when the light is off, which I kind of do on pur...

Which species is the most difficult to keep?

I know most people are probably going to chime in saying straws, but i've own PP's, Rugs, E's, Blues, Indos, straws and Violas and I have to say, my straws seem to be rather hardy. Most of them are from when the Hermit Crab vendor was in business and my jumbo straw was a lucky find at my local exoti...

I've noticed the same trend with E's being quicker, I've also noticed that E's tend to grow more with each molt that any other species, which is odd considering they are one of the smaller species.
