Re: Isopod

Smartphone cameras are incredibly powerful these days - that's what I'm using to take my pictures. Stick a magnifier up to the lens and shoot away, although it's hard to get clear pics. Needs lots of light and steady hands! Either way, it's a good alternative to a microscope if you don't have one. T...

Re: Isopod

I've missed a lot then - nice to see some familiar faces still here! Haven't had any hermits since moving to Canada, but rediscovered this forum when I found these little guys. It's cool how they carry around mini versions of themselves.

Isopod

About a month ago I caught isopods from my backyard (and one that somehow made it indoors by itself?), because I thought it would be interesting to be able to observe them for a while. Today I noticed this... Never thought they would breed this quickly, especially since I didn't have soil setup - a ...

Re: Grapes is bullying/attacking my new straws!

I did that too, but Grapes isn't the afraid of me type. But if that works for Bella I think I'll continue doing that to Grapes and see if she changes.

Grapes is bullying/attacking my new straws!

And the straws are all bigger than her! She basically gets on their backs and flip the straws over. She had done this 3 times since this morning when I put them in, and I'm afraid she thinks they're intruders and will eat the straw. I gave them all a bath before putting them in. Should I separate Gr...

1st molt

One of my crab is molting. I at first found him out of shell but responding. From what I read from other posts i should protect him with a lid or something. So I took a tissue box to cover him. When I checked half an hour later the skin is off the crab and he is squishy. That was on 25 Oct. As the d...

I used to have 6 painted hermits as a gift from my teacher (told her to stop buying paintd ones) and none of them survived long, even though they changed shells. Those paints stink. managed to claw some of the paint off tho

Some of my escapees died... Geez ants were eating them! Ants=a pest you won't be able to ignore...(or get rid of)
Once I got lucky though, my mum found one outside the house, it was about to fall into the sewer. Couldn't think of how it got there. any ideas?
