Re: I think I've lost my crab
He might be getting ready to molt. If you don’t see it for a few days don’t worry, it’s normal. Still set out enough food and change the water. When I first got my hermies they molted and I thought they were dead but still set out the necessities in hope. I saw them four months later, and hurried t...

Re: Hermie legs fell off???
Many of us got our crabs before we knew anything about crab care. It can be a steep learning curve, but you'll get there.
Yes, I'd remove the legs.

Re: Hermit Crab Eat Matzo?
From my understanding, Matzo is an unleavened bread, right?
There may not be a lot of nutritional value, but they might enjoy a bit of it. I sometimes give mine a bit of cooked pasta as a treat.

Re: Hermie legs fell off???
Welcome to crabbing! Since you don't know what kind of conditions they were in prior to coming to you, they may be weak already. If you haven't had a chance to look at our care sheets yet, start with the 'basics' one - it will give you all the info you need to set up a proper tank. How are your curr...

He's cute! I don't see anything concerning about the coloration on the leg, but see what the other admins think.
Your temp is fine at 75, but I would see if you can keep the humidity closer to 80 all the time....60 is a bit low.

Re: I think I've lost my crab
When you found the crab, how did it look? What is she doing now? Did you isolate her from your other crabs?

Re: Worried!! Emergency
I'm sorry to hear that.
If you would like help trouble shooting to possibly prevent it happening again, you could fill in the emergency template and we could see if there was anything that could be improved in your tank.

Re: New tank pics
I currently have a 40 breeder, but have a 65 gallon in the garage that I hope to get set up on Easter weekend! I've always had a very basic tank, but I got the 65 and all the stuff the previous owner had, along with the two crabs I recently acquired. It will be my first 'not basic' tank....and I hav...

Re: White patch on Herbie crab (PP)
This sentence is included in your post:
"The tank temp humidity is between 50 & 80 - average in the 60 range. Temp is low at night of 73 to 80 during the day-average 75."
I am thinking you have a typo, is one of those numbers the humidity and one of them the temperature?

Re: My Beau
Not captive bred, I got them from someone in the next city who was advertising that they wanted to give them away, due to lack of time.

Re: Crab fell twice and walled himself in hut
A fall from your shoulder onto the floor is a pretty far distance. However, there is no way to know if your crab suffered internal injuries, since we can't run diagnostics on our crabs. All you can do is wait and see if he will be okay. Don't try to dig him up if he has buried himself under the sand.
Re: My Beau
LOL, you might be as shocked as I was to see how well you could see everything in there! Well, Cher has been underground for a really really long time, and I am afraid she may not be alive. The person giving away the crabs was also giving away their whole set up, including a 65 gallon tank. So my pl...

Re: DID I SCREW UP???
1. What kind of substrate is used in your tank and how deep is it? Sand and coconut fiber mix about 6 inches deep. 2. Do you have gauges in the tank to measure temperature and humidity? If so, where are they located and what temperature and humidity do they usually read? Well I have a thermometer in...
