Re: Crab Taming?

I'm also hands off with mine. Sometimes I can have a "moment" with my crab Beau though. If he's close to the front of the glass I'll slowly put my finger up to him and move it around a bit. In turn he'll take his antennae and follow my finger on the glass. It's like we're getting to know each other...

Re: Using Only EcoEarth

I've used only EE ever since I started crabbing and haven't had many problems. Every once in a while, I do 'stir' it up and add water if needed. But, I've never had problems with consistency or anything.

Re: Has anyone else had issues ordering from Hermie's Kitchen?

LOL, I giggle when I read about people in the US and mail. Here in Canada, it would not be anything abnormal for a package to take two weeks. Fellow Canadians, I am sure that you can relate! Yup. I know the feeling. It takes a couple weeks and costs an arm and a leg! I once wanted to buy a 3D print...

I ended up with THG heat tape from Cornel's world. It does need a temperature controller, otherwise will get too hot.
Where is Cornel's World? I've never heard of it.

Happy Eight Hermi-versary

I got my hermit crabs around eight years ago! Time flies! I bought them not knowing that they'd live more than a year or to and I sure learned a lot. I currently still have two crabs, my oldest was one of the first ones I got. His (or her, I never checked) name is pumpkin after the first shell he wa...

Re: WIP Decorations

Looks great! My only suggestion is you may want a deeper water dish depending on the size of your crabs. :)

Re: Crab “shaking”/ twitching? (Not an emergency)

If he's not scared, he could be shoveling his poop out or scratching an itch far back in his shell?

Re: Finding a Good UTH in Canada

How did you end up heating your tank? I'm considering heat tape, but not sure if it's good. For now, I have three Zoomed UTH on my tank but I'm going to be in the US in the Fall so I'm hoping that I can buy some good heating tape. I'm not as worried about temperature in the summer months so I'm hol...

Re: Humidity High But Dry Moss?

Thanks Woodsorel! I don't know why I didn't think of that. I guess I've always struggled with keeping up the humidity so I don't know what to do when it's good. I'll start rewetting it more often.

Humidity High But Dry Moss?

So, I have an odd problem. I recently added a second moss pit and my humidity has been great! It's around 90% with the tank fully covered and 80% with the saran wrap pulled back a bit. Anyhow, the last two times that I've cleaned the tank, I've noticed that my moss is very dry! It was bone dry once ...

Re: Finding a Good UTH in Canada

Unfortunately, I'm a bit farther from the border, but I could try to see if an American friend could get one and ship it to me. It's so frustrating that they can't be found here.

Finding a Good UTH in Canada

Hi guys, I'm a fairly long-time crabber but I've run into a problem. I've been using the crappy Zoomed heaters in combination with keeping my house warmer to keep my crabitat warm enough. It works but I end up being too hot. It gets cold here and I'm now living in a basement so I need lots of ...

I meant cut it in half so I had a half circle of wood for them to hide in/under. :) I have an extra that I don't need in the tank.

Re: Isopod Questions

Thanks for the tips! The leaf litter is safe for the crabs/isopods. :) If they have died off then I will build them up in an iso first but I really hope that they're okay. It sounds like I didn't mess things as badly as I'd feared. I have two pieces of cholla in there. I read on here recent...

Isopod Questions

Hi guys, I recently got isopods and I'm a bit worried that I've killed them off already. The instructions I got from the reptile expo suggested using some leaf litter and just basically dumping them into the crap tank. Now, these are the Dwarf White Isopods so they're super hard to see in the...
