I think you'd be fine if you're pulling out the peanuts and sunflower seeds. If you decide not to feed them to your hermies, the birds would gobble that up!!

I have added more substrate to mine with guys down under. When I do it, I mix it up outside the tank and add a little at a time. I'll sprinkle an inch or so over the top and let the crabs pack it in.
