Re: Your MASSIVE dream tank (fun idea-sharing)

Skymall that sounds wonderful. Tubes are always tricky, esp if you're not in a hot place. For me in Canada I'd have to look into heated tubes, which kinda goes a bit too far.

But we can dream, right? Carry on the wonderful ideas!

Re: Your MASSIVE dream tank (fun idea-sharing)

Rocky, I like your idea. I've seen the duo tanks before (on here & elsewhere) and I find them fascinating. I would make sure that whatever I used for the tubes though is transparent & easy to take apart (like giant hamster tubes or something) as I wouldn't one getting stuck or decide to moult in the...

Re: Forum Request - 200+ Gallon Tank Builds

Curlz, thank you for the support as well as showing a method to expand upon smaller tanks. I do agree that the bigger the tank, the better when it comes to floor/moulting space as we don't want crabs bumping into each other. flower spray = misting bottle; I think that's the word you're going for. As...

Re: Your MASSIVE dream tank (fun idea-sharing)

There are some dwarf plecos you can get that won't get larger than like 8" or so, but they're still able to thrash at plants. And they still like a sandy bottom substrate, so that means clashes w/ roots. When my partner had a pleco years ago he had this bamboo-like plant (really thin/long) & every t...

Re: Forum Request - 200+ Gallon Tank Builds

Chelsea, I'm sad to hear you had such difficulties building your 150gal. Unfortunately, if I lower the gallon size for you in the request, another person will want 100, then another w/ 75 and we might as well just all post in the same forum then. We might lose the opportunity to bring in more big cr...

Re: Your MASSIVE dream tank (fun idea-sharing)

flutinkat, alarm bells went off when you said 'pleco' & 'planted tank' in the same sentence. I hope you mean a dwarf variety & mostly plastic plants 'cause plecos love sandy substrate to bury in & they will rip up plants. The big ones can even thrash at them w/ their tails and cut them in two. I lea...

Re: Your MASSIVE dream tank (fun idea-sharing)

Avery, that sounds very awesome. And no worries, I'm not thinking small scale here. I literally am thinking what could fit into an average-sized bedroom, so your friend's enclosed porch would be a pretty close fit. If I find an enclosed porch in the next house I'm sure you know what my immediate pla...

Re: Forum Request - 200+ Gallon Tank Builds

Maybe not start the number so high? Maybe at like 100+ gallons? 100 gallons is not really massive imo. It's still fairly small & can be made easily w/ a couple extra tanks. The lighting/heating requirements would be the same; basically extra UTHs & lamps. 200+ gallons require completely different b...

Forum Request - 200+ Gallon Tank Builds

I would like to request a forum specifically for serious large-scale vivarium/paludarium builders w/ a focus on it being suitable for crabs. There are many crab topics which deal with small scale builds & tanks, but large builds require quite different materials, costs & changes to make it safe and ...

Re: Your MASSIVE dream tank (fun idea-sharing)

doomsong, I get you about the sets, it is nice to have a full on theme. And I had a good laugh at your story of the bridge & the staring contest. Avery & Chelsea, it does NOT have to be just a simple glass tank set-up. Any size & style is acceptable so long as it fits into an average sized bed...

Re: Your MASSIVE dream tank (fun idea-sharing)

Oh I see. They're basically all made from resin. That's costly but again we're day-dreaming here so you could even make your own styles if you wanted or custom order something. Fantastic. The only thing I'd worry about is paint chipping due to crab nails or just general wear, but otherwise I'd certa...

Doomsong that sounds nice, and soothing w/ that ocean thing!

I don't know what type of ancient Greek ruins thing you're referring to though. Could you find a pic online maybe? :D

Your MASSIVE dream tank (fun idea-sharing)

Hey all, I figured I'd make a post that would gain some smiles & happy day-dreaming. So here goes... If you could splurge on cash & set-ups & have everything 'just perfect', what would your ideal massive dream tank be? (I'm talking 400+gal range) The only restrictions are you have to be able to keep...

Re: Vivs/Palu/Ripariums...

Sorry for the slow reply, I've been away from the forums a while! I've been working on two builds currently. It's very slow going, I'm only at the interior fans right now. Next step is GS & cover for that. No crabitat though, will be Palus w/ I think maybe shrimp in the water. Nothing super. :) Sham...
