Re: Badly-injured LHC, hit by car...

I had a Strawberry that was attacked and was similar to your crab's situation. I documented the process in this thread:

Re: Heat and humidity problem

I use a combination of Ultratherms and lights. That allows me to keep both at a medium level. Also, if you have a craft store nearby you may be able to get clear vinyl to cover your screen top. I use that with magnetic tape around the edges to allow it to connect with the lid. Not a lot of expense, ...

Re: Possible Post-Molt Problem, I Need Some Guidance!

She's a bit light, but I've seen them come up that way and then darken up. I've also seen them change color a bit after a molt. I'd be sure to offer good food options and just keep an eye on her.

Re: Haven't seen My hermit crab since Feb 22

Give them time. I've noticed that especially in the winter they tend to stay down longer. Even little ones can stay down 2 months or more.

Re: Lost all limbs UPDATE**5/05/14

I have to agree with you that it doesn't sound very good. You have done a fantastic job, so just keep doing what you've been doing and the rest is really up to the crab. We can only do so much, but they have to have the will AND have injuries from which they are actually able to recover. Hang in the...

Re: Lost all limbs UPDATE**5/05/14

Now sure why he didn't generate more limbs, but chances are good he's going to try for a quick molt to fix it. He's going to need every possible good food you can give him, with a priority on proteins and minerals. I'd add in some things like coconut and/or coconut oil as well.

Re: Lost all limbs UPDATE**5/05/14

If he comes out with enough limbs to get around I'd leave him in iso, but let him do his own thing even if the moving around is only a small amount. When my straw that is currently in iso molted her limbs were smaller than normal so I left her in the iso and she turned around and did a second molt i...

Re: Lost all limbs UPDATE**5/05/14

They do seem to be dead right before they molt. I'd recommend that you be patient and leave him alone for a week. No peeking! Trust me, I know that takes a whole lot of patience and involves a whole lot of worry. Been there! If they were doing a normal molt they would stay down a whole lot longer th...

Re: Lost all limbs UPDATE**3/08/14 *BAD NEWS PLEASE HELP*

I'd say keep offering food and water. You will know when it's time. I really wondered, just like you, how to know when was the time to cover them and leave them alone. I chose to error on the side of waiting longer to be sure mine had food and water as long up to the molt as possible. Trust me, if y...

Re: Lost all limbs UPDATE**3/08/14 *BAD NEWS PLEASE HELP*

Not coming out to drink could very well be a pre molt sign. Has he been eating and drinking well up to this point? I just checked your initial post and it looks like it's been a bit over 2 months since the initial damage. That seems a bit longer than I'd expect him to molt, but only a little bit mor...

Re: Lost all limbs UPDATE**3/08/14 *BAD NEWS PLEASE HELP*

It sounds like you are doing everything right and doing the best possible for him. Sometimes that is the only thing we can do. The only other thing I can think of is to set him in a flat shell, like a clam shell with a bit of water in it. That way at least his abdomen is protected from being directl...

He actually looks pretty good in the video, given the condition he is in. He seems to be alert and very intent on eating. Those are good signs! Keep up the good work and hope for the best.

Re: Lost all limbs UPDATE**2/27/14 *kinda graphic pics added

Gel buds!!! Looks like he's doing well. Keep up the food - especially calcium and protein, with a good measure of everything else also. I fed calcium and protein every meal and rotated other things. My attacked one had the stringy poop thing as well, so it may be based on how their system is process...

Re: Lost all limbs UPDATE**2/18/14 *new pics new questions*

Looks like you are doing a great job! As Careyenz said, you need to pay very close attention to what he's telling you through body language. I tend to error on the side of waiting longer to stop taking them out to provide food and water when it seems they are ready to molt. I'd rather take them out ...
