Re: Digging - Missing Crab From Shell

Found Leonard, both shell and body. I put the body in a baggy and put it in the fridge. He's all dried up, and they was some brown sludge in the shell itself, so... Still, just to be sure. Sheldon, I never found. I literally have about 80% of the sub in a trash bad right now, and I'll look through t...

Digging - Missing Crab From Shell [Edit: Lost Both]

Excuse me for not doing the template, I'll get to that. After eight months and a suspicious smell, I have gone digging. I found Sheldon (whom I know it is, because he made his usual mountain above his molting cave). I think. I found his shell, to be exact. There are limbs everywhere, all very vividl...

Re: Possible Death Smell

Thanks for the well-wishes. I have found two rather deep Tupperware, and I'm assuming that although they're not good in length, the depth is what matters most right now. I plan on using my extra coconut fiber mix that I have lying around, as well as some from the tank itself. This is a rather stress...

Re: Possible Death Smell

I had a feeling...

If I were to dig, in case they are alive, how would I set up an ISO? I found a rather deep Tupperware that can use in a pinch...

Re: Possible Death Smell

Are all of your crabs down? Remind us how many you have and are all of those the one's that have been down 8 months? I apologize. I have two crabs, both PPs, both smallish-mediums, and both have been down for eight months. As noted, one did come back up for a week, then went back down. Neither have...

Re: Possible Death Smell

That fact that you say "unmistakable" makes me think I'm wrong- which is likely a good thing! I've been checking once in awhile, and honestly, this smell is on and off. I get it real bad one time, then the next, it's gone. Unfortunately, I don't have an ISO tank. To be honest, I'm still shocked my m...

Possible Death Smell [Edit: Bad Ending]

First off, thank you for putting up with my paranoia. I realize that my bugging you of my molting issues for 2 months is probably getting annoying when the only answer you can possibly give me is "keep waiting and stop freaking out" and "check your conditions". Second of all, you people have keep me...

Longest Molt Ever?

What was your longest-ever molt? I ask because my two medium-ish PPs are ready to hit the 8 month-mark at the beginning of January, and I'm going between being completely calm and completely panicking. I'm hoping someone will pop up here with a similar tale of woe to reassure me. Hey, who know...

Re: Such A Long Time Molting...

Thanks for your relpys! Kelly, my mother's favorite show is the Big Bang Theory~ :D I just got my meat them., and, just to be clear: This is just like using my AccuRite? Calibrate it, then lay it in the tank, not in the ground? How do I do this, exactly? Sorry, I'm still a tad bit confused on the ac...

Re: Such A Long Time Molting...

Ahhhhh, I understand. I think I can get my hands on a meat thermometer at the supermarket, so I'll get back to you on that one. Thanks!

Re: Such A Long Time Molting...

Try to calibrate your thermometer. You will need a different thermometer to take a freezing or boiling point, then calibrate your tank guage against that one, since it's not likely your tank guage can take a freezing/boiling reading. Knowing what your temps are might help you figure the situation o...

Re: Such A Long Time Molting...

One of our crabs pulled a back-to-back molt that took a long time---he was literally up for ONE day, then went back down to molt again and regrew a limb. If I hadn't been looking closely, I would have missed him up for that one day and would have been thinking it was a very long molt. I wonder if i...

Re: does anyone get tired of the feeding?

I'll admit, when it's 3 AM, and you need to get up at 5:30 AM, and you just finished your long-overdue research paper, and you turn around to coo at your hermit crabs one last time, and you see a beautiful spread of mold all over the food dish , and you can't just leave it like that because it's not...
