Re: Drip system for humidity

I have a false bottom in there to prevent that.

Re: How long is too long?

I got my 2 black back land crabs on April 10th. They both started digging immediately after being introduced to the tank. That night, one or both of them raided the food dish, then there was no sign of them the next morning. I found one of them had dug down a few inches - I could see him through a "...

Drip system for humidity

Hi, all -- I have a 55 gal tank with 2 Black Back Land Crabs in it. They are not hermit crabs, but come from a similar habitat, so their care is similar to hermies'. I have learned a lot from the HCA & I thank you! I wanted to share something that works for me & hope it will be useful for somebody. ...

I can't answer your question, but wanted to say how wonderful it is that you rescued that crabby and how s/he seems to be enjoying the new environment. <3

I thought I'd update with what my brackish red claw crabitat looks like now. http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/04/01/8067e95b9b57a64c68b994f083a9c1d1.jpg http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/04/01/cfd29bb6417163115ead01c412289c75.jpg http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/04/01/67c4b5703a636311b78a...

Re: Blackback crab - Gecarcinus lateralis

Hey wodesorel, thanks for the link. She has G. quadratus, which some scientists think are conspecific with G. lateralis. They do live in slightly different environments, though. Lateralis lives in drier areas than quadratus. I am reading her blog now, though, as it will be useful since the 2 crabs a...

Re: Blackback crab - Gecarcinus lateralis

Hi, thanks for your answers!

How deep is your substrate? I want to make sure I have enough EE and play sand. We live fairly far away from the store, so making multiple trips is really inconvenient.

I have been doing research & am really excited to have these crabs. :-)

Blackback crab - Gecarcinus lateralis

Hi there -- I am taking delivery of a pair of blackback crabs (one red, one white!), http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gecarcinus_lateralis , next week. Since they are land crabs, not aquatic (but still need access to water), it has been recommended to set their habitat up like one would do for hermit cr...

They are semi aquatic. They need to come out of the water, thus the large land area.

Re: Wodesorel was right!! (Long and with pics)

Curious question, why don't you like the crabbies have access underneath the level??? The PVC pipes have holes at the bottoms to let water flow through them and I don't want the crabbies getting up in there and completely hiding all the time. I would never ever see them! :-( Sent from my iPad using...

Wodesorel was right!! (Long and with pics)

I keep red claw crabs. Got 11 of them in January and set them up in a half sand/half brackish water 20 gallon long tank. The sand was real ocean sand that we got from the beach, which I mixed with EE. Here's a pic of my setup: http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/06/14/jusa7u7a.jpg Wodesorel said that she s...
