Re: My crabs never chirp

My crabs chirp occasionally. I’ve seen them chirp at other crabs when they are far away from in the tank. I often wonder if they miss each other. (Two of my crabs are bound at the hip). The most notable time was when I only had two crabs and one was molting. The crab that was up would chirp all nigh...

Re: Crabs in moss pit all day

Thank you! I can tell they are enjoying it, just seems so excessive.
Yeah now that you say that it almost seems like “home base” or a nest

Crabs in moss pit all day

I recently redid my crabitat and added a moss pit. I kept the moss dry. Since the crabs discovered it they don't seem to want to leave. They sit in there all day and I don't see any activity. I have noticed they are still eating their food though. Is there any reason they may stay there? I have my h...

Re: 50 gallon build

I think when I’m able I will be adding two more hermit crabs for a total of 5. Do you think that’s appropriate given the new tank set up?

Re: 50 gallon build

I set up the tank out of impatience. I gave up on the tanks for now but will be remaking them once quarantine is over. I instead used 2 of my extra 2.5 gallon as water tanks with egg crate as ramps. Here is the new 50 gallon: https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200427/290088d05ff96f28f57eb618a542cff4...

Re: 50 gallon build

Looking at the chemical you sent we did try to use the number 3 as a sealing layer under the silicone, but the gaps were just to large. This is because it’s heat bent at the bottom 4 seams so the 4 side seams are gapped. I wonder if #4 would do the job.

Re: 50 gallon build

Imo, the issue sounnds more due to the fact you're trying to silicone arcylic (plexiglass) with silicone to create a watertight seam. Silicone and plexi dont mix well, and never form a strong bond. This is due to the oils withing the plexi, as the silicone will never get a 'good grip' and the weigh...

Re: 50 gallon build

An update on this: I am having a very hard time water proofing the tanks. One I have been repeatedly testing finding leaks and adding silicone. The other ,which was water proof and held water for approx. 3 days just split a seam and I am starting to lose hope. If anyone knows how to best use silicon...

Re: 50 gallon build

I always planned on adding some of the smaller fake aquarium plants to my pools when I upgrade my tank and get bigger pools. As of right now they wouldn’t fit but I’ve wanted to do that for awhile! Do you keep aquariums too? I do and I wanted to put some of my excess plants in the fresh water pool ...

Re: 50 gallon build

ahhh I see, it's a lot less work and is just as effective. Looks great! and your crabbies are so adorable :D Speaking of pools, those are pretty deep (especially the first floor one) how high do you plan on filling them up? I guess it wouldn't be a problem if there are sponges in them, but I always...

Re: 50 gallon build

I was originally just planning to cut one piece of acrylic and silicone it like dam sort of deal and add a pool that way. That would be way easier than what I am doing now, I just wasn’t committed to making permanent changes to the tank. All you’d have to cut one square and silicone it width wise ac...

Re: 50 gallon build

Where are you with the build? Sorry to be nosy, but I recently got a new 50gal (currently I have 4 crabs in a 20gal) and I'm looking for setup ideas- yours looks awesome! I could never be that handy with building water pools and such, haha I also have a 20 gallon long! I have three crabs in there, ...

Re: 50 gallon build

What are the dimensions of the water tank? I honestly think they should be okay, as long as when they get to the bottom they will be fully submerged. The bridge should be able to help them climb out, all though I'm not sure if they would be able to turn around. Trying my best to help! The tank is (...

Re: 50 gallon build

Hi what do you think the cost of making your water encloses is is it hard to cut a d bond them together I only ask because I have a idea that I've been wanting to do for awhile for a side by side salt and fresh but every acrylic fab place I've contacted hasn't contacted me back so maybe it's to sma...

Re: 50 gallon build

Hm-- how big are the crabs?
I’d say the largest is a little over 4 inches and the smallest a little under 2 inches. There are 3 of them.
