Re: Crabs digging by molter

I see no concerns honestly. I have had crabs tunnel and dig while another crab was molting.

Spiders In The Tank

Hello, So, I recently noticed spider webs forming in the coconut hut but thought maybe they were mold growth but then my suspicions were confirmed when I saw a small spider in the tank, crawling down from the hood. I don't know if the spiders are harmful to the crabs but regardless I want to prevent...

Re: MOLTING OR DEAD

No, Your crab has just molted, hence the grayish color. Place him back where he was before, because digging him up could stress him out, and he is more vulnerable right now. The molting process take up to a month. Let us know how his molt goes. And if you have any more questions let us know. Jonathon

Surface Molting out of shell, and in the stage where it can’t move

Dude, heat lamps can be a valid method of warming the tank safely. We aren't a dictatorship, there is no "approved" anything here. Heat lamps are heat lamps, they all work the same way though some variations have more cons than others. My name is Jonathon. Not dude. And not all heat lamps can be us...

Re: Surface Molt Or Dying?

A hermit crab about to molt can be lethargic however, I'm not sure about her being limp, the ashy exoskeleton is a sign of molting though. It is possible she is slowing down to prepare for her molt. My recommendation is to leave her in the hut and make sure she has complete darkness. Did you try put...

Im not sur...

Re: Not changing shells

Get more shells. You should have five shells for each crab. Give him options and his instics will do the rest. Usually, crabs will stay in a smaller shell when they are about to molt but since he molted two months ago that is not the case. Just keep an eye on him. Sometimes hemrit crabs can be very ...

Heat problem

Hi. Welcome to The Hermit Crab Association. Unplug the heater and wait to get the new thermometer. Also, continue to monitor the humidity as the heat could dry out the tank. I would recommend putting the heater on the side of the tank as it can burn the crabs when they borrow. Also keep the heater o...

Re: New Crab Owner

Hi! He’s doing well so far! We set up a 30 gallon tank with saltwater, live rock, and live sand. He’s been moving around, I haven’t seen him eat but he may be eating. Thanks so much for checking up on him! I'm so happy to hear he is doing well! Sounds like he has a lot of room to move around. Hermi...
