Anyone else’s crab sleep in the open?

Snappy often sleeps in odd places. This is one of her favorite spots. The plastic log she’s sitting on is hollow, her shell rests perfectly nestled in the hole at the top like a toilet seat lol

Re: What's on today's menu & recipe sharing

Today’s menu: Baby Arugula, baby chard, baby spinach, carrot, haddock (whole fish chunk w/organs), coconut oil, clover honey. Weekly forage (scattered around the tank) worm castings, dried insect mix, dried brine shrimp, dried blood worms, eggshell, coconut shavings. She so far has ignored everythin...

Camera?

I’ve seen some members here use security cameras to watch their crabbies and see what their up to throughout the day.

Any recommendations on brands?

Halophyte plants?

Hi, i’ve been wondering for ages why my pothos won’t grow in my crab’s tank and just remembered that I mixed saltwater in the soil to prevent bacterial blooms! Poor thing must have chapped roots! There are plenty of halophyte plants available online for use it sea-side or beach gardens that have sal...

Asian market hack

I live in the midwest, and western grocery stores here are pretty lame in the meat department. Only muscle meat, everything neatly butchered and packaged. You’d be hard pressed to find salmon with the skin on it (the best part!!) here. Fortunately Chicago has no shortage of international grocery sto...

Is my heat too high?

I have one digitsl thermometer/hygrometer that I move around the tank. I use the same brand for all my animals and will often out two in the same place to check for accuracy, I don’t do this in the crab’s tank because the high humidity degrades them faster. I just realized I always place the thermom...

Re: Rearranged setup

Yes that’s the shell shop! She climbs all over and constantly browses the shells. Sadly she hasn’t found one she likes so i think im going to need to get more.

She also likes to climb on the mesh ceiling and wake me up in the middle of the night.

Rearranged setup

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230206/e84e9167c31dee07a2b7f4d8787a8dec.jpg Just touched up the crabitat, added a fresh layer of detritus (leaves, sphagnum moss, non-usable shells, pebbles, worm castings) for some foraging and exploring action. Also switched to smaller water dishes for easier cl...

Is French Fry dead?

I recently moved two crabs into a much larger, new enclosure. Snappy I have had for over a decade, but french fry is a rescue who arrived the same day I moved Snappy into the big tank. French fry was pale, missing the tips of his legs, and very shy for the first few weeks. Both Snappy (about the siz...
