Exo Terra ?

I use one and it works well. I have ten inches of sub in the back and the sub reaches the vents in the front...no issues. The eco terra I bought is certified to hold water in the bottom (I'm sure they all are) and has no prob with the weight of the sand. However, if I were to ever move it, I would r...

Re: What to do if your hermit crab isn't eating

In most situation the crabs are actually eating and they just may not eat enough to be noticeable to us. I'm sure there are times that hand feeding is appropriate, perhaps when they lose their feeder claw, when they are sick, or with hermit crabs that are not fearful of humans. However, it is not so...

Re: newbie alert!

I have watched my crabs chow down on pieces of fruit or meat and when I take the food out to dispose of the leftovers it doesn't lo...

Re: DIY Heat Source??

Do you know where the breaker box is or what all is plugged into and running off of that particular switch? Sometimes breaker boxes will be labeled with what switches run what outlets. It may be a combo of the things currently running on that switch that are pulling too many amps... For example, I h...

Re: Ants!

Yeah, I'm not paying the Hermit Crab Patch for several hundred pounds of substrate that I can make myself for less than $50. A 75 gallon tank needs around 400-500 lbs of playsand and about 6 bricks of Eco Earth. I bought 5 50lb bags of playsand from my local Lowes. Cost me around $25 with tax. 3 br...

Is rubber bad for hermit crabs

Plasti-dip is popular in the fish aquarium world. Many people use it on the inside and outside of their tanks to create backgrounds or cover hoses...it can hold up to inclement weather with no problem so I think you'd be safe there. My only real worry would be your crabs picking at it or eating it. ...

Are you using a diy humidifier? Vaporizer maybe? What would you be using for humidity that requires hot water?

Re: Help! Fogger question

I found mine having a similar issue when I made it and it was more so bc the water droplets were clogging my small tube and causing a backup. When I would blow in the end of the tube, forcing the water back into the fogger, the problem would stop. When I switched to a larger/wider hose the problem s...

Re: Food dish on second level?

This is fabulous! Thank you for the details on how you put the level together and I'm glad that your "big guy stomps all over it" as I also have a big fella and was wondering if it would stand up to his antics.[/quote] Thanks! It's worked out extremely well for me :) Sent hastily from my iPhone....

Tips on keeping Humidity up

It works.....I made one from a Walgreens cool mist humidifier that is very similar in style. It works well, however, I used the tubing off of an aquarium syphon instead of pvc for mine. I just attached it to the humidifier spout using aquarium silicone. I didn't like how many water droplets it was p...
