Re: ISO Isopods

I don't think the rubber duckies look as neat as zebra isopods, peach nasatum, or some of the other inexpensive colored species but they do look very neat and I wouldn't mind getting some. They sell out at $20 for 1 tiny one. I wonder if they'll hold any value in a few years. For me the duckies don'...

Re: ISO Isopods

http://www.angelfire.com/oh3/elytraandantenna/MantidsAssassins/images/orange_isopods_opt.jpg This is a common cage cleaner but it is a medium to large species and often gets eaten by the hermits. The adults of the various dwarfs are relatively miniscule. I need to get some more pics on the site. I ...

Re: ISO Isopods

I'm sure I'm a bit late, but I have all sorts of different species from Titans (P. hoffmannseggi) to dwarfs like striped and and micropills to jungle micropods, thin (Haplopthalmus danica) and others. Send me a message if you're still looking for dwarfs.

Re: Not the usual crab!

Thanks for the update, that is an oddly low pH. My tanks are 7.3 to 8. Did they molt in your care? The Thai micros molt every two to three weeks depending on size. A couple moulted twice, most moulted at least once. That is very interesting. None of the other crabs I've kept from different groups m...

Giant Blue Land Crab

Finally located some of these this summer. They were $40 and I regret just picking up one (a light blue female). I tried keeping it dry (damp sand) with a container to submerge in but it lost a leg after a few months (a sign of extreme stress in true crabs). I switched it to a shallow water tank lik...

Re: Not the usual crab!

Wish we had those available in the states. We can get the Thai micro crabs which look a little similar but would fit inside the claw of one of those and so are very difficult to see even with good eyesight.

Re: skeletal ingestion?

Do you know what types or how big the marine hermits are? I've seen Dardanus hermits eat starfish which are more bone than flesh.

Re: He molted! :D

It can take a month for the adult exoskeleton to harden. If you give it a hide like a coconut shell it will probably stay there the whole time - for good reason.

Re: Wo's Guide to Fiddler Crabs

I have some comments. I did not notice a mention of being careful not to grab a male by the claw or it will be autotomized (lost). Also, my experience suggests the way to keep them alive for years involves not giving them so much water and I've had better longevity with US Uca spp. in fresh. Mostly,...

Re: Vampire Crab Care?

I thought amazon sold books in Australia? If you'll never have a chance here's a couple paragraphs that also happen to follow the title of this thread (this is from my file before the galley edits and revisions): "Specific Housing: For the half dozen or so commonly available species, the enclosure r...

Re: Vampire Crab Care?

platypuskid2 did you decide on a crab? I put together a hobbyist book mostly about breeding vampire crabs. It's a print on demand with zero copies sold so far in the USA (it's on amazon) but I put a lot of work into it and I think it would be great reading if you're still researching crabs you might...
