Re: Found multiple limbs

It is mixed with dechlorinated water and kept at sand castle consistency so they can burrow properly. I do use instant ocean for the salt water. They have both cuttlebone and coral in the tank at all times and are given additional crushed oyster shell periodically. I have seen the safe foods list an...

Found multiple limbs

1. What kind of substrate is used in your tank and how deep is it? mix of play sand and coconut fiber 6" deep 2. Do you have gauges in the tank to measure temperature and humidity? If so, where are they located and what temperature and humidity do they usually read? I usually have one but am waiting...

Re: Dry top layer?

I do! There's a heat lamp a bit above the top of the tank so it is warm enough (and a heating pad on one side which of course has dry sand near it so I'm not worried about that) they can definitely make tunnels so that's good then! :)

Dry top layer?

Usually the top of my substrate has never had a......dryer feel to it. I recently replaced my entire substrate (formerly used Hermit Crab Patch substrate) to a different mix (playsand and coconut fiber I mixed myself) and I've noticed the surface of it is much dryer than it ever was in the tank befo...

Re: Won't come out of shell, flipping onto back

No exo with him that I found. When I pulled them up I was deff checking for that in case they had/were molting. He's got good temp and humidity rn and food and water just in case, figured doesn't hurt to make sure it's available should he need it. Turned his coconut hut so the door faces away from m...

Won't come out of shell, flipping onto back

One of my crabs has started acting real odd real fast over the past couple days. I noticed someone was flipped over on their back. I flipped him over so he could go hide or w/e he wanted to do but after five minutes he wouldn't come out of his shell to walk. Waited another five, stubborn bugger woul...

Re: possible flooding/bacterial bloom

They were piling sand yeah, I guess that's why it was gone that's wild it wasn't much sand. Digging down it's DEFINITELY flooded. The bottom is soup and there's standing water at the very bottom :( Could a large amount of moss in the sand cause that by holding water in it by chance? They scattered A...

Re: possible flooding/bacterial bloom

Yeah I can replace the dishes easy so I'll be sure to do that asap. What can be done (if anything) about overly wet sand at the bottom like that if it's flooded possibly? I still imagine it's not good especially if water has been getting down there for an extended period of time? :(

Re: possible flooding/bacterial bloom

UPDATE: As of this morning I have noticed all the water from the fresh water pool is gone despite filling it last night. I still can't find a leak (I'm setting the container in the bathtub to see if I can see any water exit it over a few hours) but I'm assuming something must be wrong with it becaus...

possible flooding/bacterial bloom

1. What kind of substrate is used in your tank and how deep is it? The substrate The Hermit Crab Patch sells, 6" deep 2. Do you have gauges in the tank to measure temperature and humidity? If so, where are they located and what temperature and humidity do they usually read? Digital gauge center of t...

Re: Bottom of substrate getting wetter?

It's not on a fish stand unfortunately, the tank sits on top of my large dresser. If it is a bacterial bloom but I cannot tell for sure yet will it hurt my surface crabs at all?

Re: Bottom of substrate getting wetter?

So I did the pencil thing and at the VERY bottom it's deffinitely wetter, not so much that the sand doesn't hold shape though. Sand still just same slightly darker color. Although it doesn't smell repugnant or anything, so would it not be a bacterial bloom? I'm guessing it's best to wait till the tw...

Re: Bottom of substrate getting wetter?

I do have at least one crab down rn I think. One I know isn't molting he's just digging around because I still see him often, but ones been down for months. I'm gonna try the pencil in an area I saw him move away from recently and see if that shows me anything. Are bacterial blooms like mold?

Bottom of substrate getting wetter?

I'm not sure if I just didn't notice it before (pretty sure that's not the case) but today I was looking in my tank and it seems the bottom half of my substrate is getting darker like its getting wetter? I was concerned about maybe a pool leak but both are fine and the sand directly under them isn't...
