NY, NY 1 Medium Crab Looking for a New Home

Hello, I have one crab, named Lady Clawley, looking for a new home. She is a lovely purple-blue color. I’ve had her for three years, along with 3 other crabs, in a 20 gallon tank. Sadly, the three other crabs have died recently. I know the fault must be with me, but I cannot determine what it is, an...

Re: UTH Sapping humidity from air

Thank you for all your help! I bought some Reflectix and a new hydrometer. Now it seem my problem is sopping wet substrate. I have no idea how this happened- I didn't mist after the move, but somehow the substrate got super wet. Anyway, I've taken the hermits out for fear that if they try to dig dow...

Re: UTH Sapping humidity from air

Thanks for all your feedback! As requested, I've filled out the question template. 1. What kind of substrate is used in your tank and how deep is it? Children's play sand purchased from Home Depot. Boiled and baked to sterilize, and 6" deep. 2. Do you have gauges in the tank to measure temperature a...

Re: UTH Sapping humidity from air

Thanks for your response, Jimmy! I have cling wrap and moss in the tank, and until I added the heater, the sand was a nice sand castle consistency. After I added the heater, the humidity in the air condensed and dripped down like rain, making the sand gloppy and wet but the air dry. When I turned th...

UTH Sapping humidity from air

Hi all, Firstly I want to thank you for your assistance back in April when I asked about my listless hermies. As suggested, I got them a significantly larger tank and they love it! They're out and about much more now. However, now that fall is here, I'm having trouble heating the tank. I purchased a...

Re: Listless Hermies

Thank you all for your replies! I've been waiting for all the hermits to come up so I could take pictures. Unfortunately, Colonel Pinchington refuses to comply. Below is the emergency questionnaire. I have pictures of their tank and two of the hermits, but I don't see how to post photos here. 1. Wha...

Listless Hermies

I have three hermit crabs whom I've had for almost two years. They live in a 5 gallon tank with deep, moist substrate, salt and fresh water, and plenty of things to climb. I usually feed them table scraps, but admittedly few greens. Humidity hovers in the 70s, as does the temperature. However, I alm...
