Re: Molting E in Bacterial Bloom & Lost Limbs

That cap was a great idea. How does he get around in his tank? Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk I am using crab mesh on the bottom of his ISO instead of sand or Eco Earth. That way he can grip that and move around. Usually he doesn't move around much in the ISO. Most of the time he will be in t...

Re: Molting E in Bacterial Bloom & Lost Limbs

Here are a few pictures to give everyone an idea on Eddie's feeding procedures. First is his saltwater bath. I usually keep him in until he tries climbing out or about 15 minutes. He generally streches way out as you can see. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190419/c5f22aa379b3bb883107621135a8be4b...

Re: Molting E in Bacterial Bloom & Lost Limbs

This is the best video I got of Eddie so far. It's one of the first times I put him in the cap on the crab mesh. Since I built the rink and bumper car he doesn't seem like he wants to go. I guess like a kid you buy an expensive to for but they have more fun with the box. https://youtu.be/IbvRmsmqAsk...

Re: Not sure if crabs are molting or not....

Here is the caresheet for mixing and proper depth of substrate for the size crabs you have. http://www.hermitcrabassociation.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=92542 The general rule is 6" of substrate or 3 times more than your largest crab. I would add more substrate ASAP since your crabs are trying to...

Re: New crab dropped all limbs

I looked up the medicinal bath over at crab street journal. https://crabstreetjournal.org/blog/2012/09/25/medicinal-bath-for-treating-bacterial-infections-shell-rot-and-black-spots/ It's mainly for bacterial infections, shell rot, and black spots. I figured with finding Eddie near or in the bacteria...

Re: New crab dropped all limbs

I'm not sure with the medicinal bath. I gave it to Eddie for the first week and haven't given him one since. I have been debating on trying it again. I read each batch is only good for 2 days so you need to keep making it. I would make sure the water is within two degrees of his ISO. Putting him in ...

Re: New crab dropped all limbs

Yikes! You will deffinately need to hand feed him like I have been doing for Eddie. Be sure to powder all foods for him with at mortar and pestle or coffee grinder. If it's too big he won't be able to eat it easily. I keep Eddie's bath tubs in the 10 G Iso. That way they stay the same temperature as...

Re: Molting, sleeping or dead?

The substrate should be a minimum of 3 times more than the size of your largest crab. If a tennis ball is about 3" you will need a minimum of 9-10 inches for him to completely bury and cover. If it isn't deep enough after he sheds his exo skeleton other crabs may smell him and cannibalize him. Crabs...

Re: Molting, sleeping or dead?

Sometimes my crabs will sit like that in one spot for hours. I have read about that on here. When they sit motionless half in, half out of their shell like that they are usually resting.

Re: Need to move tank but has 2 molters

How long would the tank need to be unplugged? If it was unplugged up to maybe three to four hours it would probably be fine as long as your classroom isn't super cold. If the work is being done after school hours I wouldn't trust someone else with the responsibility of plugging it back in. Perhaps a...

Re: Just Snacking On An Apple

Straws are very colorful for sure. They all have slightly different shades of red. They are also very active similar to E's. If they aren't down molting they are usually out crabbing around the tank!

Re: Molting E in Bacterial Bloom & Lost Limbs

I came to the conclusion Eddie is like trying to feed a baby. If I set him in a bottle cap on his own with food in front of him he tries to crawl around and do anything but eat. I have way better results when I hold him in one hand and the spoon in the other. So much for trying to multi task at feed...
