Re: 120 gallon Too much?

In my opinion larger terrariums are less maintenance than smaller ones. I have my 7 PPs in a 125G terrarium at this point. My kids were tired of the fish so I gave the fish to another family member, drained the tank, and redid it for crabs. I even put a couple live plants (spider plants) in it and t...

Re: Review My Crabitat (Updated)

I've had crabs for eight years and I don't buy organic food for them. I just can't afford it (and I don't eat out either so don't say that's why). I do feed them fresh produce from my garden in summer, but otherwise they get the same grocery store food I've gotten and they've been just fine. If you...

Re: My Humble Crabitat

What food do you feed? I see that you heat mat is below the substrate, this will dry out your substrate and trap the crabs underground Usually fresh fruits, vegetables, and shrimp for protein. The heat mat is on the far end of the tank. I’ve actually had two of the crabs dig near and the sand was m...

Re: My Humble Crabitat

Yeah I’ll get a digital one eventually. I’ve never needed Eco Earth in the past to maintain proper humidity. The bubbler pool does that all by itself. I also live in a humid area.

Re: My Humble Crabitat

I have never heard that pps don’t need to be able to completely submerge I have pps and they love to go into there saltwater dish. I would recommend getting a bigger water dish Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I kept PPs for years and they never did. Now, the Straws did submerge in the saltwater ...

Re: Balance of humidity and temp problem

As long as humidity is 75% or higher then you’re good. Mine runs around 85%.

Re: does my crab need a friend?

I agree with Joe, it's not always possible to have multiple crabs. There have been reports of crabs that just wouldn't accept a tank mate. If he's been alone for a number of years and is happy and healthy, it's kind of up to you whether you want to try another or not. If you do decide to add a frie...

Re: My Humble Crabitat

Tank looks great! I would recommend at least 6 inches of substrate. Also, which sand is used in your substrate? Another thing is that the pool with the bubbler looks a bit shallow, and the other pool needs to be deep enough for them to submerge in. Play sand. It’s deep enough for any of them to sub...

HCA recommends 3-5 extra shells per crab. But more is never a bad thing! Be sure to check out the 'shell' guide, as there are appropriate and inappropriate shells to buy.
Sure, but sometimes space doesn’t permit 5 extra shells per crab.

Re: does my crab need a friend?

What size tank do you have this crab in? If it's a 20G or larger I would suggest at 2-3 additional crabs. Let them run around in a bowl together filled with about a 1/2" of appropriate water. That way when you put them back in the tank they will all the smell the same and decrease the chance of any ...

Re: shell

They need at least 2-3 bigger shells to choose from. Also, painted shells should be removed once the crab has gotten out of that shell.

Re: My Humble Crabitat

Much obliged. Sebastian is a large small and the rest are smaller, but I will probably make the substrate about 1” deeper next time. Currently I have 4, which makes the tank full.
