When I left my crabs for extended babysitting I had containers of dry food to make feeding easier. Not everyone is devoted enough to change out fresh produce regularly.

Leaving Crab with Parents

Hi y'all! Sadly my university does not allow any pets but fish, so I am leaving my purple pincher with my family who have graciously agreed to care for it. I am typing up a care sheet to help them. Do y'all have any tips or advice before I leave my crabby? BTW I plan to keep my crab when I graduate ...

How much Conditioner to use

Hi y'all!

So I've been using distilled water for a long time, but I want to start using Aqueon Tap Water Conditioner. It says to use 5 ml per 10 gallons. Would I just need to add a drop to my crab's water dish? Also, it says it makes tap water safe "instantly", should I trust that?

Died of Stress?

Hi y'all. I'm pretty sure I've got a dead crab on my hands. I purchased it two weeks ago and now it seems limp, there's a slight odor, and it doesn't pinch things in it's big claw. Are these the signs of death? When I brought it home, I bathed it with my old crab in salt water, put them into my 10 g...

Re: Tiny Crab Care

Thanks for the info! I think tiny crabs are so cute! I'm debating with myself about getting new crabs. Right now I have 1 medium PP in a 10 gal. I want to get 2 more small ones, but since I'll be taking them to college soon, I won't be able to upgrade the size of the tank for at least 4 years and I ...

Tiny Crab Care

Hi y'all!

I'm planning on adding 2 new purple pinchers to my 10 gal soon (for a total of 3 crabs). I saw a super cute crab at a good pet store that was only about the size of a thumbnail. Do crabs that small require special accommodations, especially when mixed with bigger crabs?

My 10 Gallon Decor

Hi y'all! Just finished re-vamping the decorations in my crabitat. Let me know what y'all think. I crocheted the hammock myself. Did I over-fill it, or will the crabs appreciate all the places to hide? https://i.pinimg.com/originals/95/f2/e3/95f2e34084be5b2c5102cf0ba3181081.jpg https://i.pini...

Re: Leaf Litter?

Thanks for the replies. I'm thinking about using the desert willow leaves. I've read that the leaves are not known to be dangerous to pets.

Leaf Litter?

Hi y'all! I'd like to offer my purple pinchers some leaf litter, but the only trees we have are a desert willow (Chilopsis linearis), a sandpaper anacua (Ehretia anacua), and a redbud tree (Cercis canadensis). Are these safe for hermit crabs? Also how should I prepare the leaves? (we don't use pesti...

Re: Crab looks dead, out of shell

1. What kind of substrate is used in your tank and how deep is it? I use playground sand and it's about 3 1/2 inches deep. I meant to add more when my crab came up. 2. Do you have gauges in the tank to measure temperature and humidity? If so, where are they located and what temperature and humidity ...

Re: Crab looks dead, out of shell

I've looked closer, and I believe the victim was newly molted, but I didn't know it. I usually get them to the iso tank in time. I was confused because the attacker took the victim's shell. I'm not sure what to do now. These two were my first crabs and I'm feeling very discouraged. I would appreciat...
