Re: Crab looks dead, out of shell

1. What kind of substrate is used in your tank and how deep is it? I use playground sand and it's about 3 1/2 inches deep. I meant to add more when my crab came up. 2. Do you have gauges in the tank to measure temperature and humidity? If so, where are they located and what temperature and humidity ...

Re: Crab looks dead, out of shell

I've looked closer, and I believe the victim was newly molted, but I didn't know it. I usually get them to the iso tank in time. I was confused because the attacker took the victim's shell. I'm not sure what to do now. These two were my first crabs and I'm feeling very discouraged. I would appreciat...

Re: Crab looks dead, out of shell

I feed them dried shrimp, fruit, and nuts. There are four available shells. They never showed signs of aggression before today.

Crab looks dead, out of shell

Hi everyone, I think one of my crabs killed the other one. It is totally limp, out of its shell and legs have been torn off. It finished molting a couple of weeks ago, but I can't think of any reason the other would attack it. Please tell if I can be sure it's dead and why the other one killed it.

Defective heat mat?

Hi everyone! I just bought a flukers 11x11 UTH for my 10 gallon tank. I left it plugged in on a table overnight and in the morning it was barely putting off any heat. Did I get a defective one or do I need a different brand? I'm not sure how this is supposed to keep my tank at 80 degrees in the wint...

Flukers Heat Mat

Hi everyone!

I'm about to purchase a 11x11 inch Flukers Premium Heat Mat for my 10 gallon tank. Is this brand reliable and can it be insulated? Also, would the 11x11 adequately heat my tank? The house temp drops to about 65 degrees in the winter.

Thanks for the help!

Re: Thoughts on space heaters?

Thanks! Is the 6 by 11 mat enough for a 10 gal tank?
Also, should it be placed on the side of the tank?
I really appreciate all the help!

Edit: Also are there any more budget-friendly heat mats?

Re: Thoughts on space heaters?

Thanks for all the suggestions! I already own a Zoo-Med heat mat, but it does a poor job of heating the tank. That's why I also have to use the ceramic bulb.

Could you please recommend a good-quality heat mat or cable?

Thoughts on space heaters?

Hi everyone! I have a 10 gal tank with a wire mesh lid and a ceramic heat bulb. I want to switch to a glass lid, and I know a heat lamp would shatter it. I'm wondering if a small space heater placed next to the tank would be safe and effective. Thanks for the help! Also, would a glass lid keep the t...

Mites Won't Go Away

Hi everyone, I'd really appreciate some advice for my problem... About 2 months ago my tank was infested with mites because of some dead moss I left in there. So I bathed the crabs, washed the tank, threw out the sand, and sterilized all the decorations. Now the mites are back and I'm not sure why. ...
