Re: Crab escaped, found empty shell...

Thanks for all the water advice, many great points made that we hadn't fully considered. We've since been treating all the water as suggested =). Safe to say now the crisis is over! =D. Both Hermie and Crabbie are doing well, together at last. Both have changed shells now, Hermie twice, and they're...

Re: My rescued crab

Welcome! Personally, I don't think that would have made a difference. Considering the treatment and conditions they had before you got them. If they succumb to anything at this point, I would say its PPS. Post purchase syndrome. If they haven't come up at night for several days I would say they're m...

You should put city and state in the subject line.

Re: Crab burried shell and all

We got two new crab friends for our 1st hermit crab. The first night, one of the new ones buried himself shell and all. Is he molting or getting ready to molt? or just hiding? You won 't know until he comes up. They dig to molt, cool off, hide/sleep, fun and just because. Just never dig for them. U...

Re: Should I be worried?

Thank you!!! I slipped the knife down the front and the side and no pool developed. The substrate held its shape.[emoji16] Both of my tanks have been collecting quite a bit of condensation lately and I’m not sure why. I’m continuously wiping them off with paper towels. Thank you again for the help!...

Re: Should I be worried?

If you can slip a knife down right up against the glass, and wiggle it a bit. Then take the knife out. If water pools in it you have a flood. If it holds its shape but no water you're fine.

Re: Drying sand again ...

What kind of lid do you have? Is it totally sealed? Too much misting can create a flood.

Ok, is the one shown a diy or a different type of wheel?

It's a Kaytee Comfort Exercise Wheel. With added craft mesh for when their legs spread out.

Re: Hermit wheel!

Yay! The only thing I would point out is your particular wheel has that "bar" in front. That could be a hazard when the crabs are hanging on the edge. It could hurt their legs. See how my crab is doing that? https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191102/57d91b5751e4590abd73571b6835d26f.jpg Sent from my ...

Re: Crab escaped, found empty shell...

HG, this is what it says for the 'other' group of foods on the care sheet; I have never fed it and am not really sure how you would give it to crabs though: Other This group is not as important as the other groups, and, in fact, is optional. These foods can be chosen to fed or they can be disregard...

Re: Crab escaped, found empty shell...

Isn't it?! Yea I thought the same thing. Rare sight to actually see it happen, DW was fascinated. Thank you for that, I'll pass it on to my wife for sure. I know we have honey, vinegar and wheat germ on hand. I see what you mean. Since we only have 2, when one starts to molt, we let it be and move ...

Re: How long will it usually take for new crabs to become comfortable & active?

Hi. I just got 3 new crabs yesterday from a local pet store. One of them has been very active - drinking, eating, climbing, changing shells etc. The other two just hide in the corner and barely moved since yesterday. I am just wondering how long will it usually take for new crabs to get comfortable...
