Thank you so much. I've passed this on to her.
She found one on facebook. Thank you for the suggestion. It was still $100 but almost brand new.

Re: Humidity

I have a heat lamp now, the lady at Petco said I could use a 50 watt bulb. It is keeping my crabitat at 75 so is it okay to use or should I drop to 25 watt? I will take note on the gravel! I did not know that. I have made the sand much deeper now. When you say sandcastle consistency, do I mist the ...

I watched a crab check out a shell for TWO hours and not choose it.

Re: Flukers Heat Mat

Thank you, but I'm still learning too! Herpstat and Vivarium Electronics are the most recommended. I don't think any of the thermostat makers have a cheap digital unit though. The analogue dial versions are a lot less expensive and do work the same without all the extra bells and whistles. (I actua...

Re: Does anyone know how to add a second floor inside the tank?

I used light diffusers from Lowe's on the rear wall and to make a second floor. I zip tied the wheel onto the rear wall so the base was above the wheel. Then cut a narrow ledge as wide as the wheels base and made it extend out for a second level. I secured it all with zip ties. On the other side of...

Re: Flukers Heat Mat

@wodesorel - I have a question that doesn't really have anything to do with this topic. Sorry. But I know you're a reptile expert. My daughter has a banana ball python and her thermostat isn't working. She's in college and doesn't really have money for a herpstat, which she has heard is the best bra...

Very normal. They sometimes change back and forth. Like women trying on shoes.

Re: Does anyone know how to add a second floor inside the tank?

I have used a wire shelf with craft mesh attached. I attach the shelf to the side with command strios. And use a bird ladder for them to climb.

Yeah according to that they are about 1.5" so small and we need a 12.5 gallon tank for 5. So I guess we are good, it just feels small :)
I think it will always seem small. I have 8 in a 90 gallon tank. With everything and their holes there's hardly room for the food dish.

Could one of the crabs that passed been an exoskeleton? What if the crab you found in the drawer was the real her and the one in the soil is just an exo. Just a guess. Or that but switched around
That's what I was thinking.

Re: Trying to manage substrate moisture... Clueless

Hey y'all! My tank flooded last month (it was all EE), so this time around I've filled the tank with a 4:2 ratio of sand/EE. Problem is... I have no clue how to tell if it's staying moist enough below the surface! I've got one molter down, so I'm not doing any exploration below about 1 inch right n...

Re: Molting E in Bacterial Bloom & Lost Limbs

This was a real reality check on how delicate and environment changes can really affect hermit crabs. After you have them for a while you tend to forget. They may not be able to tell you outroght, "Hey human, I don't like this! Fix it!" They do let you know in their own way for sure. So do you think...
