Re: Do you remove the pools?

Are the pools aerated? If so, you would probably be okay with once a month, unless they drag a corn cob in there. Yes, mine actually accomplished that once. It fouled their salt pool overnight.

Re: Cheese Update

I have feed my crabs Parmesan, cheddar, feta cheese along with plain unflavored yogurt and sour cream. My crabs didn't care for the yogurt, but they loved everything else. The feta was the biggest hit. They practically stampede the food dish when I offer it. But as suggested above, I only feed them ...

Re: Cinnamon Trials

Sorry I suppose I should have put a "?" after the trails. I was intending to see if anyone else had any other experiences with cinnamon. I really feel like they liked the addition of cinnamon or at the very least didn't mind it. I have fed it to them several times in two different products and both ...

That thought occurred to me too. Or it might possibly smell some residual orders lingering on the plastic. At some point I think I might introduce other dishes and see how they react.

Smart Crabs

Has anyone noticed that their crabs seem to learning? I have at least one strawberry that appears to have learned what a food dish is. If I miss a feeding, it will come and sit in the food dish, even if there is no food left in the dish. I have also done a little experimentation and moved the dish a...

Cinnamon Trials?

I know that a lot of people on here seem to shying away from cinnamon. I can tell you from experience that not only have my hermits eaten it and survived, but they really seemed to like it. I do have a few caveats though. The only thing I have tried with cinnamon in it are various organic baby foods...

Re: Any US Importing Experience/Advice

I was wondering if any of the US members have any experience importing crabs from overseas. From what I am reading, there doesn't appear to be any permits required from the importers end, as long as they aren't listed species... Is there a specific reason you're asking this or just basic curiosity?...

Re: Vampire Crab Care?

platypuskid2 did you decide on a crab? I put together a hobbyist book mostly about breeding vampire crabs. It's a print on demand with zero copies sold so far in the USA (it's on amazon) but I put a lot of work into it and I think it would be great reading if you're still researching crabs you migh...

Re: Red Claws and Strawberries
Having that much water in a tank meant for land crabs greatly increases the risk of flooding or bacterial bloom if any leaks or cracks in the containers happen. Sent from my LGMS550 using Tapatalk
I'm not particularly worried about that. The water areas are going to be comprised of a...

Re: Discoplax magna?

Looks like information is scant, since it is a recently elevated from Discoplax hirtipes. I suspect you are going to be the one that is going to have to find out how to keep them. It looks like a deep substrate is a must. That is allow for burrowing and also a moist/wet bottom layer and drier top la...

Re: Red Claws and Strawberries

The habitat that I was going to attempt this in will be pretty susbtantial and will include a 2.5 gallon section of brackish water and a 2.5 gallon section of saltwater along with a smaller area of fresh. I am just looking for something to make a more active display in daylight hours. I would prefer...

Red Claws and Strawberries

I'm not sure if this should go here or under the "other crabs" section but does anyone have any experience keeping red claw crabs (Sesarma bidens) with hermit crabs, specifically strawberries . My concern is how predatory red claws will be to molting crabs. Also I am a little concerned about my mass...

Re: Alternatives to Artemia?

Thank you for your responses. When my strawberries finally drop some babies down or me, I think I'm going to experiment with copepods. Does anyone have an estimate of the particle size of prey ingested by the different stages and roughly how many prey a single zoea can eat in a day?

Darn. Hopefully all those captive breeders really kick things up for the rest of us. One can dream I suppose.
