Re: Dead crab?

OMG that's horrible! I wish there was a way to make the sale of hermit crabs illegal. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk I’m not a fan of the commercial pet trade in general, to be honest. When you’re distributing animals en masse for profit there are just too many ways for things to go wrong. ......

Re: Dead crab?

I’ve seen crabs that were wedged in or in too far to fall out easily. With those I’d grab a leg and pull the whole thing out of the shell.

Re: Dead crab?

Has it been laying limp like that the entire time? I fear it may likely be dead.

Pesticides and Fertilizers

So it is possible to buy store bought plants and flowers not know if pesticides and fertilizers were used? As long as you repot in organic soil and detox them for 3 months or longer? Yes, there are multiple threads that brought this up during discussions on crabitat plants, since it’s not always ea...

Re: There was a bug in my crab's shell!

Crab mites cling to the crabs on their eyestalks, antennae, and joints. They are primarily sedentary once they find a host.

It’s most likely a lost food mite. They’re harmless.

Re: Trying to manage substrate moisture... Clueless

Can you see through the walls of your tank? Moist substrate will be darker.

Re: Pesticides and Fertilizers

If the trees and plants were sprayed 3 months until I use anything would that be safe? I would love to take the hermits out on a nice day or maybe use some plants for the tank. Maybe, but unless you’ve heavy rainfall there are likely still significant residues in the soil. Sent from my iPhone using...

That’s just where most crabs start to max out, though some jumbos may take longer.

Re: Pesticides and Fertilizers

To remove pesticides, the plant has to be grown in a pesticide-free environment for about three months.

Not feasible with most public trees, but if they drop seeds you can grow those and give the seedlings to the crabs.

Right, which is why I’m trying to figure out why it was removed from the Unsafe and Unpopular Food List.

Cinnamon: Unsafe?

So at one point I’d believed that cinnamon was on the unsafe/unpopular list, however it is no longer listed there.

Is there a reason for this? Was there a food trial I missed? I do realize it’s not on the safe list, either.

Re: How Long is Too Long for a Molt

She’s likely just taking her time. I wouldn’t start to worry until the four-month mark.
