HCA: Hermit Crab Association

I have had this one crab for about a month and she is still very skittish every time I walk past. She goes into her shell and takes a while to come out. What can I do to get her more used to me and less timid?

The wood is from a chair I had took apart. It is sanded do n an glue d together with Elmer’s wood glue.
The decloranator is API Tap water conditioner and I use natural sea salt form the grocery store.

Glad to be a help!! And to answer your question, Yes you should. It is always a good idea to change the substrate once and a while. But you should keep with the mix of coconut fiber and play sand. Which is the most like their natural substrate.

I would send a picture of where she is right now but I don’t know how. She is under a piece of wood propped up by a pot. She is on top of moss with a bowl of fresh water. I’ll put in some salt and some food.
