Re: Best way to catch flies in tat?
in my house, atleast outside of the tank, we use cider vinegar and dawn dish soap. vinegar attracts, dish soap is sticky, so they get stuck and drown in it. not sure if this is safe in their tank with the soap, but i have maybe 2 or 3 gnats in the hermie tank so i dont worry much. the isopod breedin...

Re: I struck a gold mine!
had my guys about 2 months, 1 E swapped about 2 weeks ago, was the first of them all to do so. the other guy doesn't care to change, and I've plopped him in there twice so he knows where the shells are, and all he does is sit there for a couple then slowly work his way out of the shop. but i will sa...

Re: lighting temperature (K)? for moss and hermies

As far as moss, I grow mine outside in the shade. :) You can grow them? yup! im planning to start doing that soon myself, for one, i have orchids who need some new moss haha, and if i can cut down costs on buying new moss through th...

lighting temperature (K)? for moss and hermies
currently im using a CFL in the soft white (2700K) temperature range to light the tank during the day and also give the moss a little light to keep alive and repair any damage from eating the hermies might've done. normally i would've used a daylight (6500K) but i couldn't find my stash of them. im ...

glue for projects/repairs?
so i made the other day, with dowels and natural hemp cord, a small sail ship mast i want to use for decoration in the tank and maybe even another way to climb up platforms, but even with the tons of cord i used i feel like it would be best to quickly dab a bit of glue on the knots to keep it from p...

Re: new to HCA, hi all!
haha thanks all! i was wondering what the deal was with the spinners i kept seeing haha. i used to have robo dwarf hamsters years ago, super energetic! in nature they can do the equivalent of 10 human miles a day, which is why when they finally passed away i replaced with russians, alot easier to ha...

Re: fresh water snails?
i've had the snails in my tank for about a year now, so im not too worried as i said about chemicals in them but yea, i am worried about pathogens. i can keep that tank clean and all but i dont know what organisms are in the water! so i will probably forego the snails, but i did start thinking about...

hi all, besides the hermit crabs i have a 55+20gal fresh water tank, and over time with my additions of live plants i nabbed some of those pesky hitchhiker snails, which are prolific in my tank now >.< either way i look at it i have to get rid of these guys for the health of the tank, so im wonderin...

new to HCA, hi all!
Hi all, wanted to introduce myself and ask a question or 2. I've grown up around all sorts of pets, and when i was younger had a couple hermits but nothing good setup. now with my own house and knowledge from years of keeping fish, hamsters, many different exotic plants and even farming experience, ...
