Re: Butterfly hatched!

To attract butterflies you need both nectar and host plants. Nectar for food. Host for Caterpillars :) In all of my years ~ I’ve never seen butterflies like oranges, watermelon or sugar water unless they are in captivity. Butterflies prefer flowers. Don’t waste your money on butterfly feeders. Butt...

Re: Butterfly hatched!

Thanks! I’ve bought more perennials this year that will hopefully help with this too! I will have more flowering trees in a few years too. It’s a process but I have goals- a full English garden complete with greenhouse one day. It’s good to dream! [emoji6] Thank you so much for sharing! [emoji3590]...

Re: Butterfly hatched!

That’s so amazing! I would love to do something like that, but I just don’t find many caterpillars around our area. (Except pests) If we find a good one this year as we have in the past I may be in touch! [emoji6] He is gorgeous- congrats! [emoji3590]Dave the Wondercrab~Pat~MaggieMoo~Billy~ Pop~Cor...

Re: Butterfly hatched!

Beautiful! I'm sure you know you shouldn't handle these butterflies other than to release...right? Their wings aren't as hardy as Monarchs. Every time you are moving them to different places to take pictures you are removing scales from their wings. (I've raised butterflies for almost 15 years now)...

Re: Flooding Issues

I am not quite sure what to say but personally I think you should post in emergency. And in the emergency part there questions which it is best you answer them. You can add some sand it will soak up water but I don't know if that will be enough. Usually when a tank floods you are supposed to put a d...

Re: Hermit crabs going outside?

We always ask before we do anything just to see what other people suggest...or don't suggest! It never hurts to ask! Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk I haven't done anything that is outside the box with my hermit crabs, but if think of something I will definitely ask for advice! Sent from my SM-...

Re: Hermit crabs going outside?

I agree as well, but I understand where you're coming from! I thought of setting up a child's wading pool outside for the crabbies with substrate, waters and climbing things. But, as stated before, #1 hands off #2, that's not even close to their natural environment. So, I pitched that idea! We just...

Re: Hermit crabs going outside?

Agreed. They’re not out-of-the-cage playing animals like mammals or birds. Moving them around like that is likely more stressful than anything. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Thank you! I feel like I didn't explain well what I was thinking about. I am really bad at putting my thoughts into typi...

Hermit crabs going outside?

Hello! I would really like my hermit crabs to get some natural sunshine and explore outside! I am just not quite sure how I should do it. Should I let them free rome in the grass? I now where I live they spray for mosquitoes and my neighbor use roundup like crazy. So I don't think letting them free ...

Re: Butterfly?

Thank you so much! You're welcome! I forgot to sa make sure you do research of what ever caterpillar you are raising. Some can be poisonous or need special care. My caterpillars have these red antennae that they shoot out when hey feel threatened. Some people may have an allergic reaction to it ,bu...

Re: Butterfly?

Both Okay! My favorite container to use for the caterpillar is a cool wip container. The reason why it is nice and wide so if one of the caterpillars molts on the side I won't hurt him when cleaning their waste and giving them fresh food. I don't keep the butterflies for very long. I release them b...

Re: I accidentally brought a foreign creature home!

You can also use links to show pictures? If you could find a picture of the creature on Google you could put the link into the post. I am not quite sure what to say about your parents. I think it would be best to tell your parents. But do it in a calm manner.
