Re: Stinky Eco Earth?
Thanks for the replies everyone! I actually set my tank up yesterday, then posted this question before checking the tank parameters again. After mixing the EE with sand and letting the entire mixture sit in the tank overnight and be exposed to air (no lid, no crabs) all seems normal. I was also deal...

Stinky Eco Earth?
I'm setting up a new tank, and I bought a new block of Eco Earth from Petco to mix with my sand. I've soaked it in a saline solution (dechlor water and instant ocean), but it smells SO STRONG! It has a bold, chemical smell - similar to Miracle Gro potting soil. I've never noticed such a strong smell...

Trying to manage substrate moisture... Clueless
Hey y'all! My tank flooded last month (it was all EE), so this time around I've filled the tank with a 4:2 ratio of sand/EE. Problem is... I have no clue how to tell if it's staying moist enough below the surface! I've got one molter down, so I'm not doing any exploration below about 1 inch right no...

Re: Eek! Swamped tank/bacterial Bloom and molters
<img src="https://photos.app.goo.gl/Twj6aMJ9JiJFwmmV7"> Ok folks... Here's the new setup! We've got about a 4:2 mixture of sand and EE, with a "forest" surface of EE and oak leaves on the left with the fresh water and a sand "beach" and shell shop on the right next to the salt water. I've moved the ...

Re: Eek! Swamped tank/bacterial Bloom and molters
Both crabbies are alive! Hallelujah! Leah had been down about two weeks, but not yet started her molt. Kenna was finished, but still consuming her exo. I've got them tucked away in a tiny critter carrier, separated and warm by the stove while I clean out the rest of the tank. I can't leave the house...

Re: Eek! Swamped tank/bacterial Bloom and molters
To clarify the deep clean... I had an ant infestation. Had to dig up a molter, toss all substrate, and start over. Otherwise, I only surface clean.
Thanks for the help y'all!

Re: Crab ID
Thank you, everyone, for your advice and the warm welcome! I was pretty sure I had EEs, but I'm glad to have it confirmed. Im making some adjustments to the tank this week, to see if I can make my crabbies happier. Feel free to keep the advice coming! I'll post a follow-up pic once improvments are c...
Crab ID
Hi All! My daughter acquired two crabs a few weeks ago... Man has THIS been a time of learning (and expense)! We've created a nice Crabitat, read tons about humidity levels, temps, and food. But I'm still not satisfied with their home. I know the temp must be off, because they've dug a little ...
