Molting/hibernating

I have 3 crabs in a 10 gallon tank with 6in substrate. It is midwinter in MN and its cold but the temp inside their tank is kept at 77-81 and the humidity ranging from 80-90% all of them are buried in their substrate. 2 of the big crabs have probably been under for almost 1 month and a small one rec...

Re: Crabitat humidity and temp (cold weather)

I now have two heaters on the back and one on each side. I went more by sizes that would fit, rather than the size that it was supposed to heat. Two are Zoomed and two are Ultratherm. Yes, putting insulation OVER a zoomed is a fire hazard. Like someone said, Reflectix can be used, or some people us...

Re: My First Shot At A 2nd Level

I did have it on the substrate for a while. I'm not a fan of it there because the crabs get sand all over and knock it over when they climb on it. It's currently sitting on a piece of slate that is the base of the tree. I saw a photo on Instagram where someone made a pouch for theirs out of craft m...

Re: My First Shot At A 2nd Level

So do you just set the thermometer/hydrometer on the coconut fiber?

Re: Shell sizes

Maybe I measured incorrectly like you said i measured the length of the entire opening, should I have measured just the crab?

Shell sizes

Most of my crabs have a shell size of 1-1.5 inches what would be the next shell size up?
I have 3 PPs and 2 prefer D shaped shells while only one is using a turbo shell.

Re: Here is my crabitat (light fixtures etc) in relation to

I notice you have the dial thermometer/hygrometer. Those are notoriously inaccurate. Most of us use the Accurite. Usually found in Walmart or amazon. About $8-10. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181127/2fb96d6e03bb91fb1acbac7ae671fa60.jpg I found this one on amazon but it doesnt look waterproof ...

Re - insulating a tank with under tank heaters mounted on the sides or back. If it's a Ultratherm (which you attach to the glass with electrical tape), you can put insulation over top of it. If it's a Zoomed (or one that the actual heater is sticky), you can insulate around it but not over top of i...

Re: Here is my crabitat (light fixtures etc) in relation to

Hi so I'm thinking about getting a heat lamp and I just have a few questions. Do you have any holes in the plastic where the heat lamp goes? Does the heat lamp burn the plastic? I have learned heat lamps are not the way to go they burn holes through the plastic and are a fire hazard that way but if...

What are recommended (possibly cheap) cameras for recording inside your tank at night?

UTH heaters and keeping in heat

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181127/3542c4d7a70983115219881368bbc00b.jpg The picture is what UTH I use on my tank. It does not heat it up well alone it says it can range from 4w-24w but it only feels like 4w how can I range it to 24w? The highest temp with just the UTH is 68 F which i need ar...
