Suggestions for moss

Hi! I’m adding a little moss pit. But I’m have no idea what kind or where to buy some. Any suggestions? I would prefer to buy online but Petco and PetSmart are fine too.

Re: California Adopters

Oakland, CA Hello! I'm a teacher and we have 2 PPs in our classroom. One is a teeny and one is between small/medium. I'm looking to adopt 1 teeny or mirco PP. I know that is a kind of specific. But I don't really want to buy one from Petco or Petsmart. They are currently in a 10g tank. It is filled ...

Re: Flies!

Make sure your taking out the fresh food every morning (put it in at night). I find that my "dry" food (oats, dried eggshells, freeze-dried blood-worms, etc.) can be left out for a bit longer but fresh food only lasts like 12 hours.

Re: Painted Shell is Chipped

I am also having trouble with my biggest crab wanting to change shells😬When he sucks into his shell his legs still stick out whereas my smaller crab sucks completely into his shell. I will try soaking the available shells in salt Water to see if he changes soon👍😉 Me too! He changed once into a bigg...

Re: Surface Molt?

He’s probably just hanging out in that spot. When they go to molt a lot of their time is spent finding their perfect spot first. I think they wait a few weeks to make sure they feel safe enough to molt and shed their exoskeleton. As long as you don’t see any exo, I think your ok. A surface molt is ...

Re: Cold Crabitat

I have a UTH on the side of my tank that I only plug in on cold nights, which helps a lot.

Surface Molt?

I got my first 2 crabs 2 weeks ago in a 10g tank. Overnight one dug himself down. However he is still a little visible. He isn't very deep, maybe an 1 inch and he is almost completely under the log. . He has a pile of dirt on him and I can kinda see his shell still. So I'm wondering if this a surfac...

Re: What's on today's menu & recipe sharing

It’s been a week since I got my first crabs!

Today it’s eggshell, quinoa, apples, carrots, freeze-dried bloodworms, and honey.

Re: When is digging "technically" safe? (For Rescue Crab)

Is it possible to fit the whole tank in your car?? Could you just transport him in the tank? That way you wouldn’t dig him up. You may disturb his tunnels.

Re: New to Crabs, aren't moving!

Sorry for the double post. But second heater worked! My little guy (who actually isn't motling like I thought) has become so much more active. The minute my tank stabilized at 80 degrees, he came out and started to explore. He is now trying to find a new hiding spot. Of course he is going the hardes...

Re: New to Crabs, aren't moving!

I think that the advice above may have missed that you are using Vita-Sand. That is a calcium sand and is NOT safe for hermit crabs. I believe that you are going to need to remove all your substrate and replace it with playsand mixed with eco earth; most of us use a 5 to 1 ratio. Thanks! I'll chang...

Re: New to Crabs, aren't moving!

Hi! As RINIKY506 said you're off to a great start. In the meantime, while you wait for the glass lid, cover the mesh lid with saran wrap and tape it down. That will hold in the humidity. You can put a blanket over the tank at night to help keep it warm. Just don't let it cover the heater. Please ch...
