Re: What to feed my hermits

Thanks so much, I guess its time to go to the pet store to ressuply :D Although you can find some suitable foods at a pet store (honestly think all I've ever gotten for the crabs from a pet store was dried mealworms), it will be somewhat slim pickings. You'll also have to read labels closely for un...

Re: what breed is she?

It's hard to say without a photo, but most often crabs from a pet store are PPs. They come in a wide range of purple shades. :) I would imagine that's what Coconut is.

Re: What's on today's menu & recipe sharing

Just prepped tonight's dinner for the crabbos: celery leaves, green cabbage, shredded carrots, blueberry, honey, ground flaxseed, dried squid, dried octopus, dashi kombu seaweed, kelp powder, dragon fruit powder, & THCP Midnight Ecstasy dry food mix. Plus the calcium pit with cuttlebone, green sand,...

Re: Safflower seeds, Mustard greens

Mustard greens are good for crabs. I used to have a bearded dragon and we always had a rotation of kale and mustard greens in the house, crabs loved all the fresh veg. :) No experience with safflower seeds, but should be fine as long as they aren't salted, etc.

Re: What's on today's menu & recipe sharing

Changed out the fresh food dish tonight. Filled it up with white basmati rice (maybe not the most nutritious, but they love it haha), banana, spinach, frozen brine shrimp, broccoli, red bell pepper, shrimp exo, and dried calendula. They've got a dried food dish too (that I usually change out every W...

Re: Not eating protein?

So i give my crabs a wide variety diet. Fruit, veggies, coconut, seaweaed, the works. But whenever i put in food that has meal worms and crickets, they dont really touch it. Ive found one dragged around a bit, but nothing obviously eaten. Any tips on what to give them? I have a nut medley on the wa...

Establishing a pecking order? Crab keeps finding others underground

Hello. I have had 2 medium-large PP's for a little over a year now. I recently added a small PP to the mix a month or so ago. They live in a 29 gallon aquarium with 8+ inches of EE/sand mixture. Recently (as in...the past 3 days), one of my larger crabs - Beacon - keeps finding the other 2 crabs und...

Re: It's Been a While...

Ok, everyone. I know you are all very against digging, but Friday has now been down for five months and Jarvis went down for his molt a couple weeks ago. I expect Jarvis to be back mid-late June or so, and I plan to dig after the six month mark. I know that everyone is very, very against it, but I ...

Re: Ask questions about food not included on lists here!

Anyone ever fed coconut flour? I didn't see it on the safe or unsafe lists. It says it's just defatted coconut. Can't imagine it is harmful, put some in the food dish tonight...

Re: Welcoming Felicity Crab-19

Thanks all for welcoming my new crabbo. She has been very sneaky, haven't managed to see her since her second night in the tank. My two larger boys are above ground and very active at the moment, so hopefully if she is underground she feels very secluded/safe. Keeping the food bowl stocked with good...

Dare I ask how much they charge for a crab at a pet store?
They charged me $12.99. PetSmart and Petco are usually cheaper, but if I'm buying a hermit crab I'd rather spend a few extra dollars at a local business.

Welcoming Felicity Crab-19

I've had my two PP's for almost a year and a half. Been wanting to add one more for the longest time, but wanted to try to avoid purchasing from a pet store. Months and months of scouring Craigslist, etc and nothing turned up. I finally decided yesterday to just purchase from the same local mom & po...

Re: What's on today's menu & recipe sharing

Ooh, snakeskin! Where do you get that? I mostly just feed them whatever I can come up with in the fridge :crabblush: I bought a tiny bag from Hermie's Kitchen. :) I do lots of food from the fridge myself. But do try to make sure to have random treats/items around to make their diet more well rounde...

Re: Where is the best place to buy shells ?

Adding a second recommendation for Naples. I have placed 2 or 3 orders with them as my PPs have grown in the past year & I have found them the easiest site to navigate. Plus super easy to review your last order summary (save the email!) and see what size shells you last bought and just size up in th...
