Re: Habitat Questions

Thank you! When feeding protein do you cook the meat as if you were eating it? And for moss pits do you have s good setup or resource I could view? I don't cook any meat, the crabs like it better when raw, but cooking it is fine too. I like to keep my moss on the substrate, but it dries out faster ...

do you have to boil the branches in order to sterilize them before you put them in the tank?
No, you can also freeze them to kill off bugs, or you could bake them in the oven. This is what I do with my branches :)

Re: Cinnamon: Unsafe?

Cinnamon should ideally be avoided, it is used as an insect repellent in some cases, and I haven't heard of anyone feeding it to their crabs either.

So cool! Love it! [emoji3059] I’m a little jealous too. [emoji6]

Re: 20 Gallon Topper Changes!

No questions. Just jealous. Lol I didn't intend for jealousy, but I am glad you like it! :) The photo itself is a bit dark, there is a piece of driftwood connecting the two platforms together to the dish with earthworm castings. I am still working on quite a bit for the topper, so I definitely will...

Re: Heat Question

Hello, and welcome to the HCA! :)

Yes, under tank heaters must go on the back or side of the tank instead of underneath, as you want to heat the air, not the substrate.

20 Gallon Topper Changes!

I recently changed up my topper as it hasn't been all that exciting, and I added a few newly purchased items as well, here's a picture! :)

Re: Leaving for a Week and a Half

I have left my crabs a couple times with no sitter looking after them as well, and before leaving I made them a mixture of foods like the ones that GotButterflies has recommended. I filled their pools up with new water and they were just fine when I got back. The only thing I really notice that they...

Re: Decor

Air plants are from the plants called tillandsia, and they are safe for hermit crabs.

Best cleaning method?

I have a predicament where I need to clean a desk in the same room as the crabitats, but what can I safely use that will kill any present bacteria without harming the crabs?

Re: Substrate

You couldn't pay me to figure out what ratio of substrate I have mixed in my tank, it's basically an accumulation of sand and eco earth that I continued to add over a year or so. It really doesn't matter what route of mixing you choose, whether it be straight sand, or straight eco earth, it'll be fi...
