Re: ISO

Acurite is the brand. Check lowes. Or amazon. They're about $10-12. I velcro mine inside the tank. Others put theirs on differently. I’ve been looking on amazon at the moment just to know what I’ll be looking for when I do go out and get one, and wasn’t too sure how I’d set it up in the tank. Thank...

It's important to know what the temperature and humidity are. The dechlorinator and marine salt (Instant Ocean) are also an important improvement. My crab began roaming around so I went ahead and let him out. He lost his big pincher sadly during the molt, and I’m looking for an acurite thermometer/...

Re: Cute Crabs

One of my crabs actually did the cutest thing I’ve seen him do yesterday. He finished molting a couple days ago and when I was taking a picture of him he started waving his small claw straight up in the air (sadly he lost his big claw during the molt :(

Re: ISO

I found the other thread where you filled in the Emergency template. Pinchers and Shells gave some really good suggestions for a few things that could be improved, not just the substrate. Did your hygrometer/ thermometer arrive yet? No, not yet. I’m still needing to order one in fact, quite ashamed...

Re: ISO

You’re already isolating the crab in the bottle. If the crab is up, moving around, eating and hardened, you can place it in the freshwater dish to rinse off any remnants of the molting scent and let it do it’s thing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk He still has a bit of exoskeleton left to eat a...

Re: ISO

If your crab surface molted, there is likely something not right in the tank. If you would like us to help you trouble shoot, fill in the emergency template and post it. He’d been showing signs of molting, and I was adding more substrate to the tank. The time I added it just happened to be he time ...

Re: Cute Crabs

My crabs sure haven’t been known to do the cutest things, but one of the cutest thing I’ve seen them do is all sleep huddled close together in their hideout.

My hermit crab has been surface molting, and has eaten most of his exoskeleton, and has began moving around the 2L isolation bottle I have now. I read on The Crab Street Journal that when they start moving around you should move them to an isolation tank. I have a tank and extra play sand I could us...

Re: New to molting

Not sure. My hermit crab began digging and eating a lot for at least a month, he seemed very active then all of a sudden when I added some more substrate he stopped and acted very lethargic. Couple days later he surface molted. If they show other signs of molting (eating more, drinking more, bathing...

Re: Surface Molt Questions

I had added eco earth to the play sand although my hermit crab had been digging around and showing signs of molt, and when I’d put everything back he slept next to some fake flowers, and started acting very lethargic. I’m assuming that he didn’t have enough time to bury himself for the molt. Sent fr...

Re: Surface Molt Questions

1. What kind of substrate is used in your tank and how deep is it? I have a mixture of play sand and EE 2. Do you have gauges in the tank to measure temperature and humidity? If so, where are they located and what temperature and humidity do they usually read? No :( I’ve heard that digital temperatu...

Surface Molt Questions

I have a hermit crab that had began molting while I was asleep. I noticed he’d shed almost all of his skin in the morning about 4 days ago. My hermit crab is about a small/medium hermit crab. How long would post-molt take? I’m trying to keep a journal for him, but also don’t wanna check on him every...
