Re: Crabtopia build journal

I've been thinking a bunch and researching a little more. I found a place close to here that makes aquariums but I noticed that the sizing was really not all that different for larger aquariums (most of them are the same width and just go taller) and while the thought of getting one custom made is ...

Re: Can a rescued cannibal crab be "rehabilitated"?

Crabs only attack another if there are issues with the tank; its not normal behavior . For example, not enough, shells, sand not deep enough. If you post this in the emergency section and fill out the form, we could help you out more with the additional detail. Sent from my ONEPLUS A5010 using Tapat...

Re: Pinchy Palace Journal

If you're tuning in now, and wondering what this is... I was completely ready to fill the tank in with sand, when aussie brought up a super important point that if I de-rim (remove the top black trim), I need to brace the aquarium so the glass walls don't rip from the seam. SO Instead of removing ev...

Re: Asking for help, how to properly cycle water tanks

There's also two fother ways to jumpstart your bacterial colony. 1. If you know someone with a cycled tank, squeeze their biological filter into your tank. Some bacteria will be transferred so you'll be starting with something. Ensure you have something that produces waste whether it's ammonia, snai...

Re: Putting a 5 gallon Betta fish tank in my 50 gallon tank

A 5 gallon tank would be big in a 50 gal tank, but it's do-able. You will significantly reduce the climbing space if it's above sand level, or reduce molting space if it's below, which will decrease the number of crabs you can have. That alone, I wouldn't keep the fish and snail in the crabitat as t...

Re: Pinchy Palace Journal

Glass lid calculations below as well. 4 pieces of glass represents two hinged glass lids. I couldn't figure out how to make it slide without a place to put a track. If I do the eurobrace inside the tank, I feel it wouldn't be straight/level enough to my liking. The hinged lid will cover the r tire t...

Re: Pinchy Palace Journal

Turns out the glass is 9mm,not 6mm. Hah. To do an eurobrace to prevent bowing, I'm estimating this to be $40. I guess I should plan out the lid and order it at the same time.Image

Re: Pinchy Palace Journal

Yeah, I was referring to the top trim. While it does look tacky, it also helps provide a little structural integrity IMO, as 4ft of glass (at 6mm) can bow quiet a fair bit! Ive seen it happen to my prior unsupported 150g tank, and then after of couple of months the glass cracked. Sent from my SM-G9...

If you go to the pictures and DIY sections, there's a few tank builds, crabitat journals, decor consultations etc.

Re: Pinchy Palace Journal

You may find to grow plants, the T5 may have to be lowered a bit... or get more units to increase PAR. You may of already touch on this, but are you bracing the tank? I'd worry about the volume putting stress on the seams and glass if you're not... I'll lower the lights some more! I've resealed the...

Re: Where can I find plastic egg crate?

If you haven't had the lumbar cut yet and feel handy.. .. A mitre box and saw is relatively inexpensive.

Re: Crabtopia build journal

Another thing, where do you plan to build it? If not directly in your room, you should consider if it'll fit around corners and through your doorway. There's a tank stand build somewhere on The Planted Tank forums where they built it Ikea style with bolts and stuff as it was too big to move through ...
