What is on my crabs joints?

If you look near his claw you'll see a green "string" looking thing. In person it looks like it's made of small fibers, almost like matted hair. On this crab it is green, I have atleast 2 other crabs I've seen who have the same thing but it's tan. I'm not necessarily worried I'm just curious what th...

Re: Question about shells

Just measure the opening of the shell, I use a ruler or fabric measuring tape. Measure your crabs shell first while they're hiding inside so when you are trying to buy new shells you'll know where to start. I recommend buying a few that are the same size as the one they are already in and only going...

How much calcium is recommended?

Every day I give egg shells to my crab's as their main source of calcium but I was wondering if that is enough for them? Or should I also be giving them calcium carbonate? I'm aware that crabs like variety and have purchased some exo from TheHealthyHermit as well as looking into my other options. Ba...

Re: Upgraded to a 29 gallon today!

That's a ZooMeds dual gauge. We tried several of that particular type but the hygrometer side would always stop working and constantly read 99% for us. We have had much better luck using AC from Lowe's. They are much bigger in size but both cost around the same, around $15. Thank you so much! I wil...

Do I need to soften "hard" foods?

Do I need to cook "hard" foods like beans, lentils, potatoes, etc? I figured the wouldn't be cooked in the wild but just wanting to make sure before I test them out on the crabbies.

Re: Vacation

Just leave plenty of dry food for them and make sure there heat/humidity will be stable. I don't think it's necessary to add any more drops of prime to their water than usual though. I can't really think of much else to consider, really depends on other factors. If you have any other pets maybe keep...

Re: New crab is lethargic, rests in odd position and has developed a dent in big claw.

My most recent hermit crab did the exact same thing, though, I left him alone and never tried to move him. He sat in the same awkward position for 3 days before I returned him to the pet store because I was sure he would be dead any second and didn't want to watch him suffer anymore. About a week la...

What to do with molding moss?

Should I freeze it? Microwave it? Dry it out? Rinse it? Put it in the oven?

My crabs love their moss, but because I keep their humidity so high, it becomes covered in mold. I know the crabs are not bothered too much, but I am. What should I do?

Heat lamp on top of plexiglass?

I keep plexiglass sheets under my terrarium lid, everywhere except where my heat lamp sits, I think my temp and humidity levels would keep better if I had plexiglass under the whole lid, but am worried about the heat lamp sitting on a piece of it. Will it melt? Will it release any gasses? Is it safe...
