Re: Molting crab in 3

It might be better for a more expert person to weigh in. I’m a pretty new crabber but I wanted you to have a response. If it is only going to be a day or so, I would wait and move as few times as possible. As long as he has food and both waters in the temporary tat where he molted, I think fewer mo...

Re: Molting crab in 3" EE with possible mites?

Ahh... My molter came up. He's in basically a large critter carrier and has been buried for 4+ weeks alone in 3" or so of all EE. Well he's surfaced a few minutes ago and looks great. I have a 10 gallon, but just adopted another crab last night. I'm going to be purchasing a 20 long tomorrow. Should ...

Re: Looking for a home in South Jersey

Adopted. I picked him up late ish 9/11... didn't even realize he was already named! Already switched shells twice and been calling him Groot haha. Def need to upgrade ASAP. This 'small' guy is larger than my alpha lol. Petco tomorrow? Thinking about it. At least I know it's not just me here in SJ fo...

Re: New crab mom!

True on more disposable income... also true sometimes spending too much of it 😂. Two cameras in 1 tank? I have mine outside the tank until I upgrade (maybe in tank after my 3rd upgrade lol). It's working well while away though; I can see the crabs in the main tank come out at night and still have my...

Re: New crab mom!

Kydra - there are a few crab dudes on this site! MotorCrab, AussieJJ for sure. Maybe FinalxFantasy and PurplePincher too? I think many of the members are 'kids' (okay, I know I am old - after you turn 40, everyone under 30 looks like a kid, LOL!!) but there are definitely a number of over 30 year o...

Re: New crab mom!

I have a brief moment to chime in... I guess my thought was the recommendation of saltwater to spray for humidity. The salt and minerals will build up over time as the water evaporates, but the salt doesn't. I will take a look at your links when I have some more time! I mixed my substrate with dechl...

Re: New crab mom!

Welcome BatmanPrincessBaby! Well I'm a new crab mom myself its been a little over a month and I'm really surprised how much I love them and how much I could care about a little crabby. I hope you have the same experience! I bet you were as surprised as I was when you realized how much they actually...

Re: Sebastian update!

@Kydra - they are the same wheels. When used properly for hamsters (and they can be used for hermit crabs the same way) the stand is on the ground. When hung with command strips, the wheel is turned upside down. :) Still catching up on everything (besides the basics at this point) so appreciate the...

Re: Medford, NJ - Crab needs home

Hey, just started "crabbing" and upgrading my 10 gallon soon. Possibly interested depending on some more info unless another adoper comes along. I am in Williamstown. Just thought I'd throw a quick reply in as I am local and could help ya out.

Re: Sebastian update!

I can post some pictures of mine if it helps. I used command hooks the first round, and they kept falling. This time I zip tied it and its secure!!! They love the inside, outside, the back, and even hanging out at the top where the stand is hung!! The craft mesh is attached with jute twine, because...

Re: Sebastian update!

Oh... I really want to add a wheel, but have seen so much conflicting info from hanging upside down to the ones I saw at Petco (plastic) that have a stand that they should be able to climb into and get some more exercise. I've searched here, but may make a new post on the wheel setup. Appreciate the...

Re: Sebastian update!

Thanks for sharing! Really hoping my molter is up soon and can get to the 10 gallon for now. Next Petco sale I'm going 20 long (if not an E) or 20 high/29 gallon depending. Posts like this give me hope!

Re: Almost emptied the salt water dish!

When I purchased my two guys from the boardwalk, the one would dig around... for about 5 days maybe. I finally bought instant ocean and he soaked in there for over an hour then ate then buried to molt (where he remains). They need the saltwater to help shed their exo so it makes sense. I'm more worr...

Re: Molting in EE Only

Just jumping in on your last post, haven't completely followed the whole thread quite yet, but you are sure the one is dead? Not exo that you saw or surface molt type deal? From everything I've read it's pretty easy to think a crab is dead when not, but going to read through everything now; didn't w...
