Re: Molts are nerve-wracking!

I think I'm just being a worrywart. Most advise not to be concerned about a crab his size until around 4 months. He was also missing a limb from his previous home, so I would expect him to take longer. I'm mostly just concerned about how cold it got, I hope it wasn't too detrimental to him. D: Sent ...

Re: Okay to cover Ultratherm UTH with aluminum foil for heat reflection?

The very flat kind sealed in a thin sheet of plastic are usually safe to insulate. Flukers for sure can be. The ones that are thicker and rubbery or puffy generally cannot be. They're already one-sided heat, and packing on the installation can make then get much hotter than intended which is when i...

Re: How Long is Too Long for a Molt

I'm with ya, I'm experiencing my first molt (though not the crabs first), and it's been a little over 2 months so far. It's been nerve-wracking! It feels like such a long time.

Best wishes to Bluey!

Molts are nerve-wracking!

I'm going through my first molt (he's done it many times before, but first time with me). It is so scary! It's been a little over 2 months and my dude is still under. The complete lack of any evidence of life for so long just kills me! I'm concerned he might have gotten too cold under there. My heat...

Is this true for any UTH? For example the Flukers brand that you attach yourself?

Re: Recommendations from other groups?

Interesting topic! I was curious about some of these things too. I haven't been crabbing long, but I chose to join HCA (vs others) due to the wealth of well-organized, helpful, and kindly-offered information and advice. When I have found conflicting care standards, I tend to take an average. Before ...

They eat and chip away at them to provide a better fit, too! :D

Re: Heat

That's awesome, thanks a lot! The boyfriend gets anxious about fire hazards (and rightfully so), so I just wanted to be fairly sure that I didn't need to worry about plugging in 2 UTHs into a strip. I love this forum, y'all are fantastic. Best resource on the net! :D Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapa...

Re: Heat

Me too! Doing more reading, it mostly seems to apply to SPACE heaters, but I can't really find a clear answer about UTHs/pads.

It does make sense that it could be a "cover their butt" kind of warning.

Re: Heat

From Google and the boyfriend: Plug heaters directly into a wall outlet. Do not use an extension cord or power strip, which could short-circuit or overheat and result in a fire. Do not plug any other electrical devices into the same outlet as the heater

Re: Heat

Heat lamps will zap your humidity. Many of us prefer UTH's (the heat pads), on the sides or back of the tank. You could get a larger one, or get a second one. My room temp varies greatly, so I have four - one on each side and two on the back - that I can plug/ unplug as needed to keep the temp in a...

Re: Popsicle sticks?

I had done a popsicle bridge too. I just havent figure out where i want it at. Since i had found my big box of popsicle sticks in my closet. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I really like how it looks, and I've seen Maui using it fairly often, so we're both happy! :D Sent from my SM-G930T using T...

Re: Popsicle sticks?

How did you make this? it's amazing I made the bridge by weaving twine around the ends of the popsicle sticks to link them together (see pic). I made 2 platforms by gluing more popsicle sticks together. I bought a long bamboo pole at Menards and cut it into short pieces, which I used as the legs of...
