Re: Is my crab dead? Cannibalism? Molting?

If every shell is unoccupied and you have reason to believe she may be underground naked, then you may dig, since her soft abdomen is prone to get scraped up by the substrate, but only if you don’t have anyone else underground. Digging up every crab is going to be more pain than it’s worth. Sent fr...

Re: Booming/grunting noise underground (low chirp)

Okay, thank you all so much. I will definitely add more substrate and this has been a very humbling experience. If that one did indeed die, I'll be back in the safe zone as that will leave me with 2 PPs. I thought it was deep enough, but then I actually measured it and realized. Guess I had to learn...

Re: Is my crab dead? Cannibalism? Molting?

Are you sure she’s not deep inside the shell? Additionally, what parts of the exo you found matter. The ends of legs and claws get scattered and lost all the time. It’s if you find larger pieces, especially whole legs and the main body, that there is concern. Sent from my SAMSUNG Family Hub Refrige...

Booming/grunting noise underground (low chirp)

I hear lots of construction happening in my crabitat. Lots of scraping and digging and I keep hearing a booming/grunting noise. It's different from their normal chirp. I've been hearing a lot of digging the past few days. The grunting I've noticed for the past few hours. Should I be worried? I have ...

Two New Crabs and a Pinch!

On Tuesday I got 2 new crabs. I had to drag my mom out to PetSmart because apparently you have to be 18+ to buy live animals. (I know it's not ideal to get them from a pet store but oh my gosh they had some big ones (smaller end of large). I fell in love with this one guy and I think I actually didn...

Re: Crabs rejecting new member

:( I don't know how to help, but this sound so sad. I know with other animals it's advised to introduce them slowly, and in a neutral ground that neither animal has been before so it doesn't feel like a territoy invasion, so maybe give them some time outside and set up a temporary makeshift area or ...

Re: Emergency- Florida Fighting Conch? (Strombus alatus)

It's okay, it was bound to happen. In a way I am relieved because it would have been a lot of stress to keep it alive but I am sorry for the conch that he was in such a bad situation. Just when I was getting attached, too. He had the cutest little eyestalks and proboscis. The eyes were really pretty...

Re: Emergency- Florida Fighting Conch? (Strombus alatus)

Update: the conch is dead. :( I did the best I could for him. Hopefully he lived a good long life in the wild.
