Re: Double pane for insulation

I seems a good idea in theory but I would be worried about moisture and mold growth because of how humid the tanks are.

Re: Surface molt??

She is probably just resting, crabs are nocturnal so she might just think that this is a good place to sleep during the day. As long as your substrate is deep enough (6" or 3 times as deep as your largest crab, whichever is deeper) she would have no problems molting.

Re: Didn’t eat before molting?

Everything is fine. I have 3 medium-large crabs and they only eat like 1/2 teaspoon of food each night, crabs don't eat that much so he is eating it's just so little that you can't tell. The reason he doesn't seem so active is because they are nocturnal so when you pick him up he wakes up and that i...

Re: Is this crab healthy?

The color is normal, some crabs are just darker than others. As for molting, check the tips of he claws if they are duller than normal then he will need to molt soon. Also, that substrate needs to be deeper, the tank you have is 12" tall so it looks like you have 3"-5". It should be at least 6", if ...

Re: Crabitat okay?

How deep is the substrate? Also you can use imgur to attach pics if you don't have tapatalk. As for molting, it can take up to 8 months depending on the size of the crab, so don't get worried if they stay buried for a while.

Baby Grey Tree Frogs!

I a different post I made I asked some questions about raising tadpoles. I was under the impression that it would take months, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Some of them must be older than the others because I now have 15 tadpoles, 2 tadpoles with all four legs, and 1 teeny tiny tree frog. I...

Re: Crab nearly drowned in water pool!

Good news! He ate and drank a bit this mourning, he still hasn't moved from that place but he looks a bit better. I'm not so sure that he was seeking out water because he was "weak", just before the incident he was tearing up everything within reach. I suppose he could have hurt himself while doing ...

Re: Crab nearly drowned in water pool!

I gave him some bee pollen, calcium, and protein supplement on a cotton ball an put it right next to his mouth. He still hasn't moved, but he is less pale and was wiggling his antenna a little, hopefully he eats tonight.

Crab nearly drowned in water pool!

I was going to feed my crabs today when I saw this; a crab was laying limp in the freshwater pool. I noticed that the ladder to get in and out was broken, leaving no way out. He was one of my larger 2 and was in a very destructive mood (probably about to molt); he must have climbed in then tour up t...

Re: Is my hermit bullying it's habitat mate?

If it wasn't direct fighting it was probably just an accident. If you see them fighting then I'd rearrange some things around the tank to limit the scene of territory. Also try adding more shells, if it was a shell dispute then you can never give them to many choices.

Re: Not eating protein?

Ive tried shrimp, they didn't really seem to pick at that either. The crickets are new with a new food blend im trying. I'll definitely look at other protein sources though Try bloodworms. I used to have the same problem with my pps but after a lot of trying out new things, I discovered that they l...

Re: New tank

I wouldn't make any changes till' he's out, any little change could be stressful to the molting crab. Just leave them in the ten gallon and don't move anything till' they are both out and ready. You want to make it as stress-free as possible, even if that means waiting a bit longer.

Re: New to this Group

Wow, that seems like quite the project! As long as you know enough about hermit crabs it should go smoothly. The only thing I'd be concerned about is moving the in and out of the house each year, as it could be quite stressful for the crabs to be switching habitats so often, kinda like if you moved ...

Re: Raising Tadpoles

You're going to kill them, probably in a couple of days. Amphibians need extremely clean water. Do you even know what the nitrogen cycle is for an aquarium? They are going to be poisoned to death by their own waste and rotting debris. I do know about the nitrogen cycle (I have kept a few aquarium f...

Re: Raising Tadpoles

We set up a tank today, 2.5 gallon with 26 tadpoles. We used mud from around the pond, sand, and gravel as substrate, then we planted some water plants and grasses underwater, next we added the water (dechlorinated tap mixed with water from the pond), and finally a few pieces of driftwood and bark o...
