6 Crabs Need a Good Home

I am in South Jersey (15 minutes outside of Philadelphia) and have 5 large crabs and one medium crab in a 55gallon custom tank. I’ve had my babies for 7 years. Unfortunately, I am no longer able to care for them due to disability and I am moving…. my new apartment does not allow pets of any kind. :(...

Re: Questions about 29 gallon tank

Hi! As long as your glass lid is made specifically for 20 gallon long/29 gallon tanks, the tank itself should have a lip the lid sits right on. Once the lid is in there, if you don’t plan on taking the whole top off for a while and only using the hinged opening, you could absolutely duct tape the la...

New acrylic lid...how to secure, and what about air holes?

You’re welcome!! [emoji4][emoji4] Oh yeah - with the new acrylic, I bet it is way up compared to what it was before!! It may take about a week to stabilize along with the heat. You can also use some dried out New Zealnd sphagnum moss and place it right on top of the substrate and it helped to soak u...

Re: New acrylic lid...how to secure, and what about air holes?

Awesome! Maybe to prevent escape attempts, you could get some kind of latch to help secure it? I have a plexiglass lid over a screen lid, and I have black clips that help keep everything secure. It also helps bc if I need to get into the tank, I can quickly remove the clip on the front and lift the ...

Re: Recommendations for L/XL Crab Climbing Decorations

So, I made my own climbing area/hide out of a dollar store container covered in crafting mesh. The mesh is perfect, all my crabs from quarter sized to the one a little bigger than a golf ball have no problem climbing it and just hanging out on it. I used zip ties to attach the mesh. Really you can ...

Recommendations for L/XL Crab Climbing Decorations

After some good molts, 5 out of 6 of my crabs are now about the size of a golf ball, one is a tiny bit bigger, and some of them are quite heavy. The reptile vines and some of the climbing decor I have is just not standing up to their weight, despite command hooks and specific suction cups made to us...

Re: Can I see your water pools?

My crabs get in both pools, but probably spend more time in the freshwater...and yes, they will submerge completely sometimes! I have clear containers so that I can see them still when they’re completely under, I love watching them in the water! https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210206/b1c0b12de48...

Re: Inactive crab

Have you gotten any news on the crab shells I didn’t have any luck with turbos from the dollar store near me. But I am still going through bins - I know I didn’t throw away the shells from when my crabs were smaller, but have not found the right bin they are bagged up in... but I have not given up ...
