Re: Salt and fresh water pools
Depending on how big your tank is, I definitely suggest looking at glass cookware! You might not find anything that has an incline but you should definitely be able to find something deep enough. I picked up two glass loaf pans and a shallow cake pan that they fit in quite nicely. Siliconed aquarium...

Re: Building My Crabitat
I'm at a point where I do something and then have to sit and wait for it to dry, so slow going now. Got the wood covered in plastic, sprayed in my great stuff, started painting the foam. It looks an absolute mess in the pictures, but it actually looks nice in person. http://i.imgur.com/Wiim4MK.png h...

Re: Crab only eats eggshells
So, a couple of things come to mind here. First, crabs eat very little at one time, usually. Unless you see them eating, there will be many times where it looks like their food has gone untouched when they've actually been munching away on it. Secondly, if you notice them eating a lot of one thing i...

Re: Building My Crabitat
You're doing a great job with the tat. What about eggcrate or plastic needlepoint canvas over the plastic. You can cover the eggcrate with some kind of screen. Check out your local hardware store. They might give you some suggestions. I just had to look up needlepoint canvas but that's a great idea...

I still have to go through all of my crab supplies before I decide for sure about heat. I may mount a heating lamp to the inside of the tank but I'm not sure yet on placement.Hermiearth wrote:Looks great! What are you going to do for heat?

Okay, I got a lot done today. First things first: gotta move her out to where she's gonna be set up permanently. http://i.imgur.com/qDyZ2IM.png Next on the list: reinforce the bottom and attach some wheels. My dad gave me some heavy duty wheels he wasn't using anymore to put on this bad boy in case ...

Re: Building My Crabitat
I've been thinking about doing something like this for years. I'm just finally in a place where I'm ready to get back into crabbing.
It's not quite as large as I was originally planning but I'm excited about it.

Re: Building My Crabitat
Hmmmm.... you guys don't have a problem with deep shell shops? I always found all the shells getting so dirty over time that I would have to completely empty the shop and clean it out pretty often or they wouldn't check out any shells. If I don't use this as a shell shop I definitely need to find on...

Definitely not water tight. You can't tell from the picture but there's like a half inch opening at the bottom of both sidesaussieJJDude wrote:If water tight, a pool? Shell shop? Just a normal level?

Finally getting the time to finish painting the windows today. http://i.imgur.com/dfhsUaL.png I've been painting some more since I took that photo and they still need one more coat. I also picked up some plywood the other day that I'm going to use for the top and back of the tat. So once these windo...

50 pounds of sand is just shy of 5 gallons 1 block of EE is about 1 gallon In a 20 long to get 6 inches of substrate you would need at least 10 gallons worth, but more is good! It'll settle over time. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk Would it be possible to add this "math" to the substrate guid...

Offer him some of his favorites too. They might help his mood.
Good luck! I hope he pulls through for you!

Re: 14 yr old hermit crab seems ill
I would isolate him from other crabs if possible. Try not to bother him too much. If there was sand in his shell he may have come out of it to clean it out but ended up getting sand on his abdomen which could be why he came up. Are you sure he molted? If he doesn't look like he recently molted he ma...
