This is literally my crab life. My tank was never big enough. I always wanted more space, more space!
Go ahead and set it up! Make sure everything is good and stable while that guy finishes up his molt.
But... no harm in looking around for a bigger tank in the meantime tho, amirite?

Re: Building My Crabitat
We've been doing a lot of home improvement lately, so I just want to say be cautious with that window. If it's pre-1974 that flaking paint will have lead in it. I've never seen anything on what lead could possibly do to crabs, but because of the moisture it's likely to leach if not carefully sealed...

Building My Crabitat
Hi friends :) I'm really excited to get back into crabbing and I wanted to go ahead and start this thread to keep track of my progress. I'm using an old chest of drawers as the base and building up from there. I picked up an old window that I'm going to be using for the front/door of the tank & I wi...

Re: Long Time, No Crab
My plans are coming up to just over 300 gallons, but I'll know for sure once I get all my supplies in one place and can get final measurements in. I'll def be making a thread for it once it gets going. Lots of planning first, though.LadyJinglyJones wrote:That is SO exciting! What size are you thinking?

Re: Long Time, No Crab
Thank you, thank you.
I truly forgot how addicting crabbing was, but boy am I falling back into it QUICK!
I've already gotten plans drawn up for my new tank. Going to be building my dream tank this time around, so I am super excited.

Long Time, No Crab
Hi everyone! It has been a long time since I've been on here and a long time since I've had hermit crabs. About 3 years ago I had a lot of life changes going on and ended up having to make the tough decision of giving up my little (and big!) guys. Now, here I am, 3 years later - married, kid, house....

Re: The Elusive Normal...
I'm pretty sure they "feel" the weather changes so Sandy may have caused them stress, even though they were in a tank. My guys will often mostly all move to high point in the tank when we have a big storm come through the area. I suspect this is instinct to be up higher in a storm. It sounds like t...

As long as she's the only source that people have experience with and as long as she is the only one offering up a big variety of species, she'll keep getting business. No matter how bad it is at times.patchouliii wrote:Anyone interested after the LHC ordeal?

Re: LiveHermitCrabs.com
Seriously, my order is being shipped next week to accommodate another customer's personal schedule that placed an order after me. She's simply doing it so she wouldn't lose that order. And I wonder how many orders she is accommodating? I'm not being petty but I don't think that that is fair. What i...

Re: Deep substrate IS important. 9 PP's down!
We got them in June, and little by little have upgraded the crabitat. My guess is that we finally have it right so they are going in! lol Only one, the small one has molted. She must be feeling more like herself because I am seeing her a lot lately. :) I wanted to add more substrate to one side of ...

I have at least 11 down right now. I think I counted 8 up, but with some of them wearing the EXACT same shell and being almost the EXACT same color, it's hard to tell sometimes.

Re: question about colonies
I'm adopting in 10 more crabs to add to my existing 8 in the morning. Basically what I'm going to do (and what I always do) is put them in a container with a dry paper towel in the bottom (usually some kind of large bowl or cake pan type thing). I get a salt water bath ready and put them one at a ti...

Re: Alaska Hermit food store open for business! :D
Mine came today!
For anyone wondering, I placed my order & received shipping confirmation on the 22 of this month. Very quick - a lot faster than I thought it'd be.
It all looks & smells great. I can't wait to put some in the tank
