Re: 75g rebuild: false bottom, levels, cycled pools

I use Aqueon Quietflow filters, and also bubblers. There's basically 0 risk of crabs hurting themselves because they are too big to fit into the intake, and the filter is crammed with a filter pad so they don't enter the motor area. Crabs also have plenty opportunity to NOT endanger themselves. They...

Adding other animals.

@Crabbzymagnus the ones in my area are not. Their legs aren't very long. They just crawl around slowly and roll into a ball when i pick them up, for protection. Just bring a mini crabitat with you and try to get 20 or so. A plastic tub filled with leaf litter and a piece of wood will do. You want a ...

Re: Pre-molt Sac Burst???

Are you handling him to check on his sack? It might be best to leave him be, so that you do not stress him out. Crabs seldom allow us to peek at their abdomens, it exposes them to a bit of danger. It probably did not burst, they naturally have parts that can be gray on their abdomen. If he isn't fre...

creative ramp ideas for deep watering holes???

Hiya! Deep pools are the best! I use 2.5 gallon tanks. I braid "ropes" out of plastic packaging straps and just drape them over a side for crabs to climb in and out. The steep angle lets them grasp the rope to turn invert and clean their shells. You can also use plastic plant garlands, found at a cr...

Re: New Stuff

Agree! I even threw away the calcium sand that i got for my first 10 gallon tank. SIGHHH that was a heavy trash can.. I wish i repurposed it, and used it in a craft somehow. Or use it as cement! [emoji2]

Re: Adding other animals.

Isopods/rollypolies/pillbugs are crustacean cousins to hermit crabs and prefer similar climates. You can find them naturally in areas where there are trees and rocks. They like to hide under rocks and fallen tree limbs, thriving in the damp spots. Turn over large rocks or tree logs. You might even f...

That is quite the hike! Crabs do roam very far in the wild, so that hike might have been VERY good for him! Lucky guy! [emoji6]
