Re: Moss Pit Blues?
My crabs sleep all day in the moss pits. They eat it too!

Re: Need Advice!
The substrate can't have any tunnels in it. The crabs make their own tunnels. And use play sand from the home improvement store. Mix it 5:1 sand to ee and use saltwater to moisten so that it is sandcastle consistency.

Re: Humidity help
Moss is definitely the one thing that will help. I have 2 moss pits in my 29 gallon, and 4 in the 55. Plus bubbles in the pools but I don't think they help too much.

Re: Not enough Substrate?
The more the merrier, but if you think of them in the mail, they don't have to stop at 6" or whatever. They go down as far as they can to stay safe from predators. Mine almost always go to the bottom, the couple that I have been able to see.

Re: Crabs avoiding saltwater
My crabs never touched sw until I started using dechlorinated water for the mix. I see you are using bottled water. Might be worth a try.

Re: New crab disappearing act
All the above is accurate, but also be prepared if you never see them again. Sometimes I think they are so freaked out from the trials they have been through, that they just give up, and don't want to chance being "caught" again on the surface. I have lost a few this way and there isn't much you can...

Re: Live plants
I tried a bromeliad, which was good..for 3 weeks, then got eaten. Spider plants are good but also get eaten. I got 2 cheap plants from walmart, and they are doing good! One is a croton and I think the other is a Draecena. I will check tonight and post pics. Whichever you decide on, double pot them s...

Re: Somehow he's back on the surface...with no limbs. Yikes!
I just had one like that who was attacked while molting. Mine had 2 legs. She ate and drank twice a day for 3 days, then stopped. That is when I made her a cave in her iso, and the next day, she was in it and starting her molt. It has only been a week or so, so we have a way to go. But every indicat...

Re: Vicious E's taking over my tank! What to do?
Wow, I can't imagine having so many crabs and they killed each other like that, Wode! How heartbreaking. The E's I have were adopted one's who have all been through molts several times. They have allowed my one big pp into their "gang", but he was my first, who murdered 2 of his tank mates, so..bird...

Re: Mold and full tank cleaning
I had a flood in my first tank which was all Ee and the bacteria bloom was horrible. I had to remove everything, put in a false bottom and mixed play sand to EE at 5:1 as recommended. No problems since.

Re: Vicious E's taking over my tank! What to do?
Thanks for the help ! I thought 10-15 was pretty low in a 55, since half are very small, a few mediums , and really only 2 I would say are large. I have a ton of stuff in there. 3 moss pits, 2 shells shops, big pools, climbing stuff and vines and branches...but I guess this a good time to think abou...

Vicious E's taking over my tank! What to do?
I adopted 8 crabs several weeks ago. 4 are E's. I love them but they have pretty much taken over the tank, and if I try to add a new crab, they immediately pounce on him. And not just the "I am the boss" shoving match. This is all out war! I adopted a single yesterday, and since there are only 13 cr...

What do you have over the mesh top? It needs to be wrapped in plastic wrap or covered with damp towel, with just a corner open for air.
