Re: Hard to believe

Ok. I got a reply. The vet gave them calcium boosters. :hlol: So I asked for the vet's name in case I needed help with my crabs. How did the vet give them calcium boosters? Injection/lotion/food? The one crab I could see sort of clearly in the middle of the heap of containers is certainly NOT a yea...

Re: Hard to believe

If this person has bred them and they are a year old they will be in shells with less than 1cm openings. Mine are 2 years old and in 1.5cm openings and have been for about 6 months. YES I did breed them and yes there is proof on my breeding thread here. Is this person from Germany and called Christi...

Re: Changing gender?

Tony from 陸寄居蟹研究室 Tony's Coenobita Land Hermit Crabs (facebook page) sent me a paper that talked about crabs changing sex. What he doesn't know about crabs isn't worth knowing. He has a heap of scientific papers on crabs. Also some other people have commented on crabs changing sex. I can't be certai...

Re: I HAVE ZOEA!!!!!

Hello! Just wanted to give an update :) I haven't done any daily videos because it's been a little crazy around here! First of all, I don't think the artemia are able to eat the zoeae - I read that they do have mouths, but they are filter feeders. IDK...I watched them for awhile (I rear them in a f...

Re: Artemis, Day 14 carrying eggs

My transition tank water got up to 30c and we decided that 27-28 was best. I just moved the heat mat away from the water end of the tank and that sorted the issue. Kept the second lot at 26-28 and had way less deaths.

Re: Artemis, Day 14 carrying eggs

Hi Mary, On my first attempt I lost about 50% who had taken shells but not left the water. Nat and I ended up putting it down to the fact the water was too warm in the transition tank and they developed more quickly and also were unable to get out of the water so drowned. I made changes to the trans...

Re: Artemis, Day 14 carrying eggs

Goodness me you are doing really well. Keep on doing what you are doing. Soon you will be advising all the rest of us who have been lucky enough to raise a couple of babies.
Must chat with you about what you are feeding.

Re: Baby hermit crabs

Don't worry. Even with best condition and thousands of larvae only a few hundred will reach the stage of megalopa. And then they will eat each other, till there are some left. So, you are very lucky, if you even have some at the end, in shells and then at land. Oh ok thank you I had thousands of zo...

Re: Danys ?-Coenobita-breeding-thread

Hey, I had some last year. They even changed to megalopa. Unfortunately they died, before they took shells. But you are right, is was a long time since the last larvae. :? I advanced the theory, that breeding has something to do with the weather, especially areas of high pressure. Since December 20...

Re: Danys ?-Coenobita-breeding-thread

naalide may I ask if the water in the transition tank is in a container or all over the bottom of the tank with deeper sand on the beach part? Love your rocks for them to climb up and out on. That's where I lost a heap on my first attempt as they couldn't (didn't) get out of the water.
