Re: Aussie Zoea - raising attempt 2016

Still no movement in the transition tat... I really feel that my attempt is over but will keep the heater and airstones running for a while longer just in case. Also had a sad event in my main tat last night. Discovered Ziggy (who I think was the mother) being eaten by Mango... I don't know ...

Re: Zoea *successful captive breeding & rearing of C. variab

WOW I've just read through this entire thread. As mentioned a couple of posts back I found larvae in my salt water pool on Sunday 10th January. With Nat's help I managed to get 5 out of the transition pool but at this stage it looks like they won't be continuing their journey. I've learnt heaps. Now...

Re: Aussie Zoea - raising attempt 2016

https://vimeo.com/152692321 4 of my 5 crabs were out and about tonight. N order of appearance. Ginger (female) Ziggy (male? and suspect father or possible mother) Mango (unknown but probable mother) and Squirt Moss. Also a bit of a look at my tat. The pool in the front is my salt water and I use oc...

Re: Aussie Zoea - raising attempt 2016

24hrs on and those that made it to the sand have not moved. I suspect they have gone to hermie heaven. BUT I've not totally given up on them yet. So I have probably not been successful in getting any baby crabs BUT I have learnt heaps and made a fine effort. I am happy with myself and proud of what ...

Re: How long are crabs safe out of habitat?

Really? So even handling them isn't the norm? My smaller crabs I let be but my jumbo and two large ones are the three who I'll handle and allow to roam around. Hi there, hermit crabs have modified gills. They need the warm humid air to breath. Taking them out of the tank is like causing a human an ...

Didn't have time to prepare it properly so tried gutter guard and then a piece of long thin natural sponge. On the weekend silicone with fine fine gravel will be done on the spare...

Re: How long are crabs safe out of habitat?

Crabs are a hands off look and love pet. They should never be out of their tank except if absolutely necessary and even then only for a minute or two

Re: Aussie Zoea - raising attempt 2016

On a far sadder note there was no other movement of shells in the pool so I took them out into transfer spoon rest. It looks like they have tried to morph while still in the water and failed. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160120/1d5c9f03626ac6c75f23697fc169239a.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.co...

Re: Aussie Zoea - raising attempt 2016

Day 11 and these two are trying to escape their watery confines. Now have 15 in the transition tank pool. None have ventured to
Land yet but these two might lead the way. https://vimeo.com/152352099
