Woo hoo, congrats! Normally I’m the instant gratification type, but I took the time to set up my 65g “right” so I’d only have to relocate everyone once. If your guys are otherwise comfortable, I vote go for broke on the new setup! Can’t wait for pics! [emoji7]

Crab eating plastic!
Caught this guy apparently chowing down on a plastic leaf! These plants and crabs have been in the tank together over two years without an issue. I used my skinny tongs to take the leaf from him and determine whether it was plastic or real, and he immediately started picking on another plastic leaf!...

Re: Best way to catch flies in tat?
Hi @kermie16 ! Glad to see your hermies and marties are still going strong! I’ve given up on catching gnats, they’ve been a nuisance in my house all summer, there are more outside the ‘tat than in! And they’re so small and “floaty”, any attempt to smack them in the air just blows them out of reach! ...
Re: Shells!
Yay! So exciting! I remember when our first two got a choice of unpainted shells for the first time. Every time we add new shells it's like Black Friday sale in the shell shop. You might find they have particular habits around shell swapping, too! One of our big guys used to chase everyone out...

Re: UPS Battery Back Up For Emergencies
I think the best option now would probably be purchasing a small $250-$300 gas powered generator. Keep it in the back of my truck with a cap. Run an extension cord or two to the truck and through a window. Fire up the generator and you have power. Then you have power for the tank, and other things ...

Re: Tank Upgrade!! Just Purchased 150 Gallons!
Oh my goodness, GB, WOW!!! That's fantastic! What's the footprint/dimensions of that tank? Yesterday we were looking at the 5.5g that we're building as a freshwater "bump out" to our 65g and thinking how tiny it looks, and wondering what we are going to do when our guys get to be jumbos. I might hav...

Re: Substrate tests
How deep is your sub? You could try a smoothie straw (large diameter) and poke it down to the bottom, kinda like removing a "core sample". What you're looking for besides the hole not collapsing (wet enough) is that it doesn't fill with water (too wet). You might need to shine a light down the hole ...

Re: Bag playsand already wet?! Safe? sub replacement questio
Thanks, GB, @Cjandt and @wodesorel again! After reading your replies I'm glad we held out for finding dry sand! The sub refresh went smashingly well. All the old sub below the surface looked practically new. We mixed new sub by soaking EE bricks and then mixing that with the dry sand; as before, the...

Re: Bag playsand already wet?! sub replacement ?s time sensi
The hubs found dry sand, woot! I’d still like an answer to the wet bag question, for future reference and as a point of info for other crabbers (I’m sure we’re not the first people to encounter this!). Is there a way to edit my post title to remove “time sensitive”? [emoji4] All seven crabs surfaced...

Re: Bag playsand already wet?! sub replacement ?s time sensi
Hello! I remember you! :) Hi fellow Floridian! :) I wondered if you still had your crabbies! :) It probably is rainwater. The downside to it being rainwater, is rain does wash the contaminants out of the air. Then, who knows what is on those bags... I'm a germaphobe, and have OCD...so don't get me ...

Bag playsand already wet?! sub replacement ?s time sensitive
All seven of our crabs have been up for a week so we decided to seize the moment and turn over the two-year old sub in our 65g, doing a 50% replacement in the process (unless we are wiped out before we get to 50%, or one of you tells me it's a bad idea!). QUESTION: We purchased several bags of plays...

Re: Florida - Hurricane Irma
We did great! Eye went right over us! We are one of the few with power! List internet, but it was restored by this am. Lots of debris around the yard. Trees down on the golf course! We are safe! God is good! GB, all the time! [emoji7] Glad to hear it! My friends in Lakeland were hit dead center of ...

Florida - Hurricane Irma
Yes, still no power! We have a small generator running the freezer and a window a/c unit in the bedroom so we can sleep cool. My husband strategically placed a fan to pull cool air from the bedroom down the hall so the kitchen is a tolerable 80 degrees. I'm getting really good at cooking on the gril...
