Re: Ant overload!!!
I usually bake the wood at a very low temperature (as low as I can get the oven) for 30 minutes to an hour and sit next to the stove to keep an eye on it. If you did a higher heat setting, it would definitely take less time! I just prefer to play it safe and wait. EDIT: For future reference, if you ...

Re: Ant overload!!!
Hi! You're definitely going to want to change the substrate. Due to the depth of the substrate we use in the crab tank, no oxygen gets down to the bottom of the substrate which can encourage (bad) bacterial growth when combined with moisture and extra organic material. As long as the crabs have appr...

Re: Is Dog or Cat Food Okay For Crabs?
I wouldn't feed regular cat or dog kibble, but I've seen plenty of treats that are wonderful. Pure Bites is a brand that all of the animals in my house love, and they are dehydrated meat made with only one or two ingredients. Meijer's also has dried beef lung chunks for dogs that my critters love. I...

We Have Eggs!
Sorry for my absence as of recent! I started college which is taking up a large chunk of my time. Sadly the crabs had to stay at home, and my mom is caring for them in the mean time. When I came home to visit and do some maintenance on the tank, I was surprised! Someone dropped some eggs in the shel...

Re: Indonesian
How can you tell the difference between an indo and a pp? To me, these look like pp's. Indos have a slightly different eye shape and their big pincher is shaped differently! It’s much smoother in comparison to other species, IMO. A quick Google search of “Indonesian hermit crab big pincher” will sh...

Re: MY HALLOWEEN CRAB IS BUBBLING AND HER LEG FELL OFF
I just wanted to chip in and agree with what Curlysister said about substrate depth. These crabs burrow up to 3 feet underground in the wild! I personally wouldn’t feel comfortable giving them anything less than a foot. If you really need to get the most coconut fiber you can get - check Home Depot’...

It might be a good idea to make sure you thoroughly wash your hands every time you’re done handling the hermit crabs, or anything in their tank. It could spread to your Halloween crabs, so it’s good to take preventative measures.

Re: New accidental crab owner
do NOT use almonds! use the sand, but moisten it with bottled water. get something they can hide under. also, they need humidity, so get a spray bottle. i beleive in you! :D also, get the hideout ASAP. the tank also needs to stay warm Almonds (with no salt) are fine to feed, they’re on the safe foo...

Re: New accidental crab owner
well, they need a 10 gallon tank with 6 inches of sand. make sure to bake the sand at 360 F for 30 minutes to free it of parasites. then go to your pet store and buy saltwater bowl and freshwater bowl. they CANNOT CANNOT CANNOT have tap water, so give them bottled water. also, give them logs and th...

Re: New accidental crab owner
You can upload a picture through the Tapatalk app, it would be very helpful because you may have a marine species, which have completely different care requirements than land hermit crabs.

Re: What is your crabs favorite food?
Fish (they really like smoked rainbow trout in olive oil, which I fed on my four year “crabbiversary”), burning bush leaves, millet, banana, popcorn, eggshells, scrambled eggs (especially when they’re still warm), flowers.... the list goes on.
