Re: HELP!!
Any update?
Re: Airtight
I so relate. Organizing crab food can feel like such a chore sometimes. I have little sealed containers (glass flip top jars or smaller plastic tubes for storing craft stuff, like beads and such, for things I have in very small volumes) on a hanging spice rack at this point. But no system is perfect...

Re: Crabitote
Hi :) I am starting up my very own tote! I want to rescue hermit crabs from my store, and track down some Ecuadorians. I am going to Home Depot in a few days, so I can get sand, and possibly look for a container, otherwise I want a 30 - 40 gallon clear tote that is higher. I only want really high t...

Re: Molting and Other Questions
Just seconding wode... and adding that it's totally worth the wait when they do finally come up! :D As for mixing in the old sub in the new tank, totally - go for it. Unless it's developed stinky patches it should still be useable. (And I don't mean just earthy smelling, I mean eggy, foul smelling d...

Re: exciting news!
I'm just waiting for them to molt now. I am assuming they haven't yet because i haven't had any old skin to clean out, and when they dig into the sand they only stay under for 5 days at most. Can they molt that fast? They will actually eat their shed exoskeleton after a moult, so you won't need to ...

Re: Hermit Crab Shells
And in case you hadn't seen it yet, I'll just add the link to the preffered shell page - it covers PP shell preferences & has pictures & names of shells to make finding them easier.

Re: Do I need to be worried?
I'd add a protein too, if there isn't any. Something nice & fatty (for example, something like salmon or herring) if you have it - building back up energy reserves after a moult takes a variety of foods. Insects (dead of course) are a good addition too.

Re: Timers & Nightlights
I just bought the cheapest timer I could find at the hardware store (usually in the lighting section).
If you want one with multiple outlets (for multiple plugs) its probably cheaper to get one timer with two outlets vrs. two timers - but price check.

Re: Just Brought home Molting crab and he turned blue?
And I'd just add, if it hadn't been covered, that the sand you want is play sand (silica sand) that you can buy in big bags from a harware type store. Petstores mostly sell calcium carbonate sand, which isn't recommended at all (after being moistened it can then harden in clumps as it dries - potent...

Re: Saved 9 jumbos this weekend
I've found Richards shells often stocks larger openings: mention that they're for hermits and let him know what size you're looking for (I think his measurements tend to run a wee bit large, but not by much). Shells with carved stripes & pearlized shells are popular because they're lighter. Also wan...

Re: My Incandescant Bulb
If your house is really :? dry (mine gets dessert-levels of arid with the rads on it the winter) heaters can be really drying - especially (but not only) in smaller tanks. What methods are you using to maintain moisture right now? A bubbler in a deep freshwater pool can often be a big help. Though d...
