Re: Very lost on heating
It's probably the substrate. I am probably not using enough Eco Earth. usually I do a clean on Tuesdays, so I will add more Eco Earth! Also my lights are incandescent, I have some of those LED ones, I will swap one out and see if that changes anything! :) Sounds like some good things to try! Good l...

Re: Very lost on heating
I have a UTH not a heat lamp. I just mean when I turn the light to the tank on it heats it up into the 80s but the humidity goes downhill. So now I end up misting a couple times a day Sounds like you're using the wrong type of light bulb or lamp if you're looking for light rather than heat out of y...

Re: Very lost on heating
^ My temp is always like 85 - 86 when the lights are on. When I turn them / the heater off (unplug it) it goes down into the 70s and I feel like it goes down too quick. But because it's so warm, I am now having issues with humidity! When I got home from work it was in the 40s!! My moss was complete...

Re: Safe to Use?
I recently found a nice little metal cage in my junk office, I'm not sure of the type of metal but it looks great for climbing on. It's been painted over but there are two things I'm unsure of the type of metal and the type of paint. I'm not dying to use it but I do think it would be a nice change ...

Re: 90% positive I have a couple dead crabs during their mol
Thank you guys for the help. I've been wondering what you do for a while. I use instaocean I think is what it's called. I read somewhere that that was better to use then most of the other stuff. I check the levels with a salt water measuring tool. Sorry I can't remember what it's called. You pour t...

Re: Very lost on heating
Would this one be good? It's 6 x 11 But IDK if a heating mat is the same thing.... I'm think so but I want to be sure before I purchase it! Sounds like you're doing a great job, and are definitely heading in the right direction! Caring is half the battle, and it's obvious that you care.Crabsalicious wrote: I just want this tank to finally be where it needs to be, and the crabs to be okay!! lol
The crabs will love their cozy home!!!

Re: Temp dropped, crab died?
Yes, the gage you're using is notoriously inaccurate. Inaccuracies of 10-20F and 20+% humidity are common. I'd recommend you do the calibration routine for both temperature and humidity separately (see the care sheets) and then make a table of gage reading vs. actual tank conditions and post it on y...

Re: Temp dropped, crab died?
To post a picture, most folks use the Tapatalk app, or you can post the photos on an online photo sharing site (imagur, youtube?) You can't copy and paste from your computer - the HCA platform doesn't support that. Here's the temp/humidity gage a lot of us on here use - it's generally pretty accurat...

Re: Temp dropped, crab died?
Do not dig them up. If they are molting, then digging them up could stress them out and kill them. You could also collapse their tunnels. Molting can take a long time and they don't come to the surface until they are completely done. Just wait and see. Sent from my SM-J700T1 using Tapatalk Ok. I th...

Re: Temp dropped, crab died?
So Rose is still in the same position in the tank, and there are now little flying bugs on her and around her. Does this mean she's dead? What should I do? Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk Oh dear. That doesn't sound good. The best way to tell if she's dead is to see if she smells strongly like d...

Re: Temp dropped, crab died?
Also, does the ultratherm require that I myself put some sort of insulation around it? I think I read that it did. What is the best way to go about that? Yup, if your house is cooler, you want to insulate. I started with a sheet of cardboard cut to size to match the ultratherm, wrapped in tinfoil, ...

Re: Temp dropped, crab died?
So , I went home on lunch beak today to take the foil off from the zoomed uth. I noticed that the area where the crab in the picture (named "Rose") is is all dug up, and it appeared that she may have dug down into the substrate (and kicked up a pile of sub behind her in the process) because I did n...

Re: Temp dropped, crab died?
[quote="Crabsalicious"]Can anyone tell me what size "ultratherm" heater to get for a 10 gallon tank? I see some saying it should cover most of back side (long side?) Of tank, others saying no more than 1/3 of back side? Thank you! I want to order asap. Needs to be one that can hold temp in cool hous...

How awesome! That second video especially - was that a molt sack on the left side of his abdomen? Looks like it to me. Love those waving antennules!
